Chamonix to Cinque Terre, Help!

Hi All!
My husband and I are traveling from Chamonix to Cinque Terre on July 2nd, and we have no clue what the best strategy of getting there would be. We want to travel by bus/train.. whatever is FASTEST, and DO NOT want to drive. I've read that we need to take a bus from Chamonix to Courmayeur, and then hop on a couple different trains... but not sure where to find EXACT info. on the bus/train schedules. Also, we have already purchased eurail tickets, so not sure if that covers all of our traveling options? PLEASE HELP! Thanks!!

There is no fast option. 7-8 hours and at least 5 train changes. Search on bahn.de, the German rail site as they show most connections (can't book it there though). Try searching Chamonix to Genova. You can search Genoa to the CT on Trenitalia (you didn't say which town).

Your fastest route is the bus through the Mont Blanc tunnel from Chamonix to Courmayeur and continuing on by bus to Aosta and Milan. Depart at 08:45 and arrive at 13:30.

Take the train from Milano Centrale to the Cinque Terre town of your choice. For xample, you can leave Milano Centale at 14:05, connect in Monterosso, and arrive in Vernazza at 17:34.

Can I suggest that you alter your itinerary a bit? Unless you are taking at least a 4 week trip - that's a lot of lost time and hassle to traverse from Chamonix (hope it isn't too overcast so you can't see anything) to the Cinque Terre (could get bad weather there too). You'll pass by a ca-zillion interesting places/sites that are quite "rewarding" while you waste a valuable day (or two) in travel. What happens if one of your 5 buses/trains is late & you miss a connection??? Do you have guide books to tell you where to stay near a train station if you have to stay someplace overnight because of a missed connection???

Personally, I would never plan an itinerary like this.

This is not an easy connection. I try to avoid this type of connection.

For bus, if you google "chamonix courmayeur bus," the first non sponsored link is:
http://www.chamonix.com/pdf/courmayeurete.pdf

This shows buses go to Aosta, then to Torino, or to Milano Lampugnano. You can look up connections by train to Cinque Terre from any of these cities with varying complexities by using bahn.de. None of these are direct. Whenever you see double horizontal lines, you change buses.
