Hello,

Looking for travel suggestions for a Hawaiian honeymoon - 6 days at the beginning of July.
Can anyone recommend how to split the trip up, which island to visit, where to stay?

With only 6 days I would not "split the trip", I'd pick one island only. Kauai or Maui would be my choice for a romantic honeymoon. But nothing wrong with Oahu or Big Island! Do you have a guidebook that you can look at photos to see which more appeals to you?

One week (or less) = One island. If you wanted to try two hotels, I suppose you could do that. In July oceans will be calmer along northern shores -- if you're into snorkeling. Hope you don't have a long flight TO Hawaii with so little time there.

Stay put for 6 days. July is coming up very fast so you might want to book something VERY SOON. What is your budget, do you want a condo, or hotel.

Kauai would be my choice but then I am madly in love with this Island - so green and lush and no hotel or condo can be taller than a coconut tree so you won't find lots of high rise buildings blocking the horizon. SeaLodge in NorthShore is a popular as is Pale ke Kua (both condos)St. Regis (very expensive but hey it is your honeymoon), Poipu Shores (condo) and Grand Hyatt Regency in Poipu (South Shore) are my favorites.

I would fly into Honolulu, Oahu for the first night/next day sightsee, then that evening or the next day fly to Lanai and stay at the Four Seasons Koele.

You will have the most memorable Honeymoon especially if you tell them with the reservations.

Koele is not on a beach and does not currently get to share the same beach and pool priviledges with the Four Seasons Manele Bay that it used to.

I would not advise that for a honeymooning couple's only hotel.

For only six nights, fly into one island and stay there.

For better advice, tell us:
1. Are you going to be renting a car?
2. What kind of accommodation are you looking for?
3. What is your nightly accommodation budget?
4. What sort of activities did you have in mind? Snorkeling? diving? hiking? horseback riding?

Although I adore The Lodge at Koele, most honeymooners and first time visitors would not want to be upcountry. Also, I am very disappointed that Elison has decided to seperate the resorts. Guests at The Lodge will no longer be welcome at the pool and spa at Manele. I will remember my two visits to Koele fondly, but won't be returning anytime soon due to this policy change.

I'm in the pick Kauai or Maui camp. Any exploring on BI requires lots of driving.

Hi, maybe if you give us a better idea of what you are looking for on your honeymoon? Are you both into activities, hiking, relaxation, spa, shopping, dining out, nightlife, etc...that may help us narrow down your choices.

With that said, I'd recommend Maui or Kauai for a relaxing and beautiful honeymoon. I've helped some coworkers and relatives plan honeymoons on Maui and they have all loved it. Maui has world class luxury resorts, beautiful beaches, great activites, lots of dining options, and many places to explore including Haleakala, and Road to Hana.

Kauai is more rustic and untouched, lush and beautiful vistas, and amazing beaches and scenery. Don't miss Waimea Canyon and either a boat ride or helicopter ride of the Napali Coast. Snorkeling is good on both islands.

Like other posters said I would only stay on one island for the amount of time you have. The Big Island requires a bit longer than a week I think as well to really get to explore it's amazing sights. Oahu is a great place too, and I personally love it becaused I am a city gal at heart so it feels very "close to home" for me but some people are surprised by it because they weren't expecting such a bustling vibe (including traffic!) in Hawaii, however Oahu has some beautiful beaches and a drive to the North Shore is a must if you are there. If you have a foodie palatte and like shopping, dining out, historical sites (e.g. Pearl Harbor), and experience some local life, then Oahu would be a great place to explore as well. With Hawaii, your first time there usually isn't your last so you will probably return and explore the other islands eventually.

Oh I just re-read your post and if your trip is coming up in July then yes you probably should look into booking flight/hotel/car asap! I am sure you will be able to find something, it is just a matter of how much you're willing to spend and how much research you're willing to do. My brother-in-law, who stayed at the Four Seasons Wailea on Maui, managed to get an upgraded ocean-view room just a few weeks before his honeymoon too, and at a discount. He told me of a site called www.whatahotel.com where you can book luxury resorts at decent (though not the absolute cheapest) rates, but you are usually given a bunch of perks like upgrades, late check-out, free breakfast, resort credit etc. which are not offered through other rack rate packages. It is nice when you are going to stay at a luxury hotel anyways (like for a honeymoon!). Although going through the hotel site directly can sometimes be a better deal overall so best to do a bit of homework. Enjoy your trip!

it would be very helpful to have all the info as requested above. However, I would in no way call Kauai rustic. It is more lush than Maui on the whole but has fabulousluxury andnot so luxious but wonderful hotels, condos, restuarants just no high rises like Maui and Ohau. Nothing in Kauai can be taller than a coconut tree. I think they learned a lot from seeing how overbuilt Maui and Waikiki is.

Congrats 1st of all...just remember enjoy it goes sooo fast!
we got married in 87 and went to Hawaii on our honeymoon.
We now came back for a 3rd time after 24 years!
As some of the comments said Kauai..is where my heart was left!
6 days does not give you a lot of time..if you don't mind
living out of luggage then go for it...would do Kauai and
maui.....for sure! But if you want to RELAX and not run around do just one island...you will have enough to do...REALLY!!! maui or Kauai you will be very happy with!!!
