Best places to visit in Northern California
I'm roadtripping from Seattle to San Francisco and plan on spending some time driving down the coast of California. What are the best towns to stop and explore or stay the night at?
I love nature (have to see the redwoods), beach, culture, etc.

Another place I suggest is the Requa Inn- a few miles south of Crescent City. Did not stay there but did a tour and had a fabulous meal there.

Up the hill from the Inn is a great overlook of where the Klamath River enters the ocean. There is a trail down to a look out and frequently you see whales feeding and playing around.
Its a beautiful spot. You can also do some longer hikes from there- we hiked to Hidden Beach- using a car shuttle so we only had to go one way. It was a beautiful hike!!

Stop in Healdsburg. Check out Healdsburg Shed, Bella Wine Caves, and try the Garden tasting menu at Partake by Kendall Jackson, cocktails at Spoonbar and pizza lunch at Pizzando. Or, in Calistoga, Indian Hot Springs Resort!

The Redwoods National Park is huge, so your nightly stopovers depend on how much time you want to spend there. We spent 8 days and could have stayed longer. We stayed at the Ravenwood Motel in Klamath which is right in the center of the park and also camped a few nights at Jedediah Smith State Park. So I would recommend a night in Crescent City and then perhaps a night in Klamath or in Scotia or Ferndale. I'm not too fond of Eureka. We also enjoyed a night in the old town of Arcata, which I think would be preferable to Eureka also.
For historic interest, I'd suggest a stop in Ferndale and in Scotia. Do a web search for more information. If you plan to head down Hghway 1, Mendocino is an interesting place to stop.
