Century Southern Tower or Dormy Inn Premium Shibuya

I currently have both of these booked for 5 nights in mid October. I picked these based on convenience, price and reviews (I can cancel either without penalty up until a day before). From what I understand, CST is in Shinjuku, right at the station (although it's listed under Shibuya on tripadvisor), and the Dormy is in Shibuya between the Shibuya and Jingumae stations.

I am primarily looking for a convenient location, with easy access by foot or mass transit, to sites and some nice 'local' spots for dining and shopping (not huge stores but smaller specialty shops) in the nieghborhood. I am not that interested in hotel amenities (like pools or room service), more concenrned about clean, quiet and safe. Both are close in price. Dormy is a bit more, but includes breakfast which is a plus, but not a deal-breaker.

Also does anyone know what the "comfort club" discount is for the Cerulean?

The Cerulean is part of the Tokyu Inn hotel chain and the comfort club is their club membership program. You join online for benefits that come with club membership.

If you are not interested in amenities then go with the CST.

Aloha!

The comfort member price at the Cerulean is about $267/night, CST is about $200 (including taxes), Dormy about $225 (including taxes and breakfast). The Cerulean sounds really nice, but the price difference (for 5 nights) is not worth it.

I was told by a "local" that there's lots of construction near Shibuya station, and from what I read online, that could be for years.

Just an aside but the included breakfast at the Dormy Inn Asakusa which we stayed in for the last 4 nights of a 17 night trip last year was the worst food we encountered in our entire trip and we chose to just have juice and a coffee and go and find breakfast elsewhere, even though it was included in the price of the room.

For a city like Tokyo, where locations are so different from each other, and the comparative convenience of having one station as the nearest to the hotel over another one will depend on which sights you want to see, I'd base your choice on location rather than on included breakfast.

For what it's worth, we started that trip with 2 nights in CST. We like the location and it suited us well, but note it's a good 10 minute walk (at our slow speeds) to areas with lots of inexpensive food choices. Right by the hotel you have a couple of international chains, the department store options and this tiny place:

Thanks Kavey. I was considering the Dormy for the Shibuya location (I was told that area is good by a recent visitor). The breakfast was just a perk (although based n your comment, maybe no). We are fine with a 10 minute walk. I live in a city and walk almost everywhere so that's not an issue.

So far feedback from here, tripadvisor and a friend in Tokyo, are telling me to stick with CST. Cerulean is out of my price range.

I can't comment on the Dormy Shibuya location. We were happy with the Asakusa one, the room was decent, with very comfortable beds, we'd booked one of the larger ones described as Western + Japanese. Tiny pod bathrooms but perfectly fine. Helpful desk staff. Laundry facilities available.

Just wanted to let you know our experience on the breakfast.

I imagine you wouldn't go wrong with either.

I'd say that the CST was a classier room, certainly on the bathroom front but both were perfectly fine for us.
