Traveling with 20 year daughter looking for fun but safe areas to stay in Munich for 2 nights. Any suggestions? I currently have a Marriott Courtyard booked in on Schwanthalerstrasse with free cancellation. After doing a little research on reviews I want to cancel , it look as if it is in a very sketchy neighborhood. Thanks

Try to find something near the Marienplatz.

Very nice pedestrian zone in middle of city.

Many beer halls and restaurants are in that area.

It's more than a tad expensive, but the Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski München is a wonderful hotel one block from Marienplatz.

Very safe and convenient location. Clean. Nice breakfast. Not super fancy like the Vier Jahreszeiten but you can go over there for Tee.

We had a week long stay at the Courtyard about 3 years ago. We enjoyed the location - near the rail station, there was a grocery store next door and within walking distance of everything. We didn't find the neighborhood a problem at all - however if you not from an urban area it might bother you. We certainly didn't find it unsafe in any manner.

I am staying May 24 and 25. Looking for under $200 range. Thanks for all the great suggestions I will check them out. I would like to be close to the beer gardens and such. I am from Tampa Florida so actually very familiar with strip clubs and the like. Thanks for letting me know it is a fairly safe area if used to the city. I was just going by the reviews I read. But if hotel is ok the price is right.

I would stay in the Marriott area only if I am going to the Oktoberfest. It is in the modern part of the city. I like the Altstadt area better at other times. Also, the reason the Marriott price seems good is that they don't include many things in their prices as a default. Be sure to check what is included in your booking and compare with the same offerings at other hotels.

Well, the Marriott Courtyard has AC and an elevator. It is a short 2 blocks from the train station. And you can always count on the quality of the rooms. And the hotel is non-smoking. I assume you got the week-end package that includes breakfast for 159E (about $210) per night. To get to the Marionplatz and Hofbrau House you should return to the train station and catch the Ubahn 2 stops.

I checked for something closer to the Marienplatz in the same price range and only came up with one, the Concord Tulip Inn. It has a great location, Herrnstr 38. $375 to $425 for 2 nights, depending on the size of the room. It includes breakfast and free cancellation on the day of arrival. Some of the room reviews were not that great- I suspect these reviews were for one of the lower cost (smaller) rooms. AC was not mentioned so it probably doesn't have any. It does have an elevator and has some non-smoking rooms. You can get to the hotel on the Ubahn, but I would recommend a taxi. It shouldn't cost more than 10E from the Hauptbahnhof. It is a 5 block walk to the Marienplatz and 3 blocks to the Hofbrau House.

If AC is required, you might double book , check the predicted temperature for 24 May the day before (May 23), and cancel one of the reservations based on the predicted temperature.

At any rate, you should have a wonderful stay!
