My 20 year old daughter and I are traveling through Europe this summer with a quick three night stay in Paris. I have been told to stay in or near Marais or Bastille but cannot find these areas on a map so not sure if I have them spelled correctly. I am looking for something in the $250.00 per night range. Is there anything in Paris for this price and in a fun safe area. ?

I'm no Paris expert but I think it's really helpful to understand the arrondisement numbers and how they work...

They curl around like a snail, going outward from #1 in the middle. I know part of the Marais is the 4th and I think the 11th. You can tell the arrondisement number by looking at the postal code of a hotel (so using Paris 'zipcodes' the number of the arrondisement is the last two).

I did a quick Google (hotels marais paris) and a map of the 4th and bunch of listings popped up. At a glance I liked the look of Hotel Saint-Paul le Marais which is a 3 star and 195euro for a single room in June (just as an example, I know nothing about this hotel). Postal code 75004, so in the 4th.

The Marais is in the 3rd and 4th arrondissements. Bastille is around the Place de la Bastille.

You can google Place de la Bastille and find it easily. The Marais is the area to the east. Both are on the right bank of the Seine.

Marais and Bastille will be enjoyable for the 20 year old. It's not my favorite area but many love it. Place des Vosges, Promenade Plantee, Musee Carnavalet, Musee Picasso, Musse Cognaqc Jay are all in the Marais and there are a lot of shops. There are plenty of transportation options, as well. You may also want to check Trip Advisor for hotel options.

You might have trouble finding something for $250 a night in those areas because it is well over the price of most places in the Marais or Bastille areas. Is there any particular reason that you want to spend this amount? In my own part of Paris, hotels run from 25€ to 60€.

However, if you want to spend a lot, you should examine the hotels of Saint Germain-des-Prés, the 7th arrondissement, or perhaps the Champs Elysées area. They will be happy to take your money, perhaps even more.

Kerouac, if I may, what area of the city do you live in? I've been trying to vary my usual habit of staying in the 18th. Looked around some areas, stayed in a couple of others but keep going back to Montmartre. I very much want to find another area to like. Would like an attractive neighborhood out of the center. Any suggestions?

Totally agree with you. But with 20+, I believe Latin quarter is perfect spot for 3 day trip. Champs élysées is quieter later in the evening as compare to Latin Qtr.
Check for hotels in google, elaborate map of Paris, shows all districts, choose the hotel closer to Norte dame & siene river.

I really don't think $250 a night is well over the price of most hotels in those areas, the Marais is very expensive. That is only about 175 euro which is a pretty typical price for a 3* hotel in the popular areas of Paris, and not even for a deluxe room. Especially if you don't want a teensy room.

To be honest, I don't think there are that many great hotels in the Bastille area. I stayed in one I did like a lot, which is the Pavillon Bastille, right across from the Opera House. I think their doubles are around that rate now http://www.paris-hotel-pavillonbasti...m/uk/index.php
My only caveat is that while I did like the rooms and hotel a lot, the hotel is on a busy street and it can be noisy. Even the back of the hotel is on a street that isn't super quiet, but that isn't going to happen in that area, anyway.

oh, BTW, the Marais is not to the east of the Bastille as someone said above by mistake, it is to the west. It's the area around place de Vosges and then west to rue Beaubourg, roughly.

I say aim for ~$150-200 and look at the Latin Quarter (5th).

Thanks for all the great input!! I'm glad to know I can find a room within my budget. I had heard nightmares on the cost of hotels in Paris. I currently have something booked 3 miles outside of Paris for $200.00 with free cancellation. I Booked it through Marriott as a back up in case I could not find anything in the city. Looking forward to hotel research now. Thanks again!

Please do not stay outside of Paris. You can easily find a hotel in Paris for $250 or less and you will save time and money if you don't need to travel into and out of Paris each day.

Consider the 3rd (Marais), 5th (Latin Quarter) or 6th (St. Germaine) Arrondisements. They are centrally located and will provide easy walking to many of the sights you will want to visit. You can find hotels in your price range by doing a search using the box above on this page.

oh no please don't book outside of Paris!!! You can find something in the 4th, 5th, or 6th easily enough. There's literally hundreds of hotels around central Paris in that (fairly generous) price range.

Latin Quarter = the 5th is where I suggest she stay. I think that's a much better idea that even Marais or Bastille for a first trip honestly.

take a look at www.rentparis.com....depending on your dates you may find an apartment within your ranger available. Most of their properties are in the Marais/Beaubourg area.
