Best Airlines in US for changing the departure airport of a puchased ticket

If I need to change departing and return airport on an already purchased ticket what is the charge? I assume my ticket will be considered "cancelled" if I need to make the change but I don't know how much it will cost ( or the rules) for making this change if needed. Wondering if there is a website that compares airlines cancellation fees for non-refundable tickets?
Thank you for any suggestions.

Contact the airline that you're scheduled to fly on and ask them what change penalties will apply.

As suggested check with the airline. I usually read in the neighborhood of $150, and then there may be a charge for the difference in the ticket price for the dates.

Totally depends on:

what type of ticket you have bought
arriving and departure cities
specific airlines and their rules

Only the airline can tell you.

Southwest Airline is one answer to your question. Southwest does not have change fees. Regardless of your class or category ticket, if you must completely change itinerary, you can cancel your ticket for a full refund and apply the value to a new ticket. Note that on discounted fares, you must apply the funds to future travel, you do not get a cash refund.

At full fare on Southwest, you can get a credit card refund and start from scratch.

IF Southwest flies to and from where you are.

And changing airports could prove quite costly even with southwest. If your first ticket is an advanced purchase $100 ticket, and your plans change at the last minute, only full-fare $400 seats might be available on your new flight. So although they have no "change fee", it just cost you $300 to change your mind.

If you have not already bought the ticket, I would compare the cancellation fee with buying trip insurance that covers trip cancellation for any reason.

clark: The same is true of other airlines, PLUS they charge you a change fee. You're always going to pay the going rate for the new ticket purchased.

In my book that still makes SW the better choice.
