Hello - We will be travelling to Paris in the next couple of weeks. Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice and memorable lunch (brunch) place for a Tuesday afternoon? We have to leave very early next morning so unfortunately, we cannot do a dinner. Thanks.

I am not sure you will find anything recognizable as brunch in Paris, certainly not on a weekday.

There are lots and lots of places for wonderful lunches at every price range. Several things will help us advise you: where are you staying?
what do you want to spend?
what kinds of food do you like? hate?
what kind of atmosphere do you prefer (sleek and sophisticated? mellow and luxurious? country and comfortable)?

I'll still throw a suggestion out there...one of our best lunches in Paris on our recent trip was at Spring. It's not far from the Louvre. They offer a fixed menu at lunch, so you don't get choices (which may, admittedly, not appeal). The food was wonderfully prepared, even though it was fairly straightforward, classic french cooking. Service was impeccable. the place was small, relatively modern furnishings, and very cosy. With the open kitchen, you could see them cooking.

There are a few places that have brunch nowadays to suit tourists or foreigners, and some international-type hotels will have it, but I agree, not common on weekdays. So I'd suggest you focus on lunch as brunch isn't a typical French thing. Some places that have brunch are in the expensive areas or hotels and it's almost solely on Sunday (maybe Saturday). Don't know of any on Tuesday.

Perhaps a better description....looking for a memorable lunch place, but must be very Parisian. I am looking for something mellow, with a great view and not too much of the rare, organ meats.

I wanted to recommend the restaurant my wife and I consider our most romantic in Paris, le Pre Catalan. It is set in the park, the views are all around, the food is French and wonderful, the service is charming, but now the price has risen beyond our pay grade, even for a once a trip splurge. I cannot find the relatively affordable lunch menu thay had the last time we were there, but maybe you can research them better than I can.

So many great places. I agree with all the ones mentioned but I must tell Leely, many years ago when a told my young gentleman friend I was going to the Grand Cascade. He laughed at me and he said it's where French men bring the women not their wives. I ignored him, it's a wonderful setting.
Be aware, Pre Catalan is tres cher!

Oh, I love the idea of Le Train Bleu. It is SO Parisian--recalling the days of the great train travel. The room is gorgeous, and unfortunately, I have heard that the food is so so--but.... We loved watching the lunch crowd arrive (watching from the lounge over a glass of wine). No view, of course.
Try for a lunch reservation at Jules Verne==that one certainly has it ALL.

That is a really funny story, cigalechanta. I'll think about it the next time I go to La Grande Cascade.

I'd love to try Le Grand Vefour; I've heard the cheese tray is phenomenal.

I loved Le Grand Vefour, but remember I was there many years ago. There are seats you book labeled after a famous French person. I wanted Colette but no go.

Thanks Everyone for your advice. We are looking for an early dinner and unfortunately, not too keen on the rare meat served in France. We also are looking for something casual but serviced by a very good chef.
