Public transport from Las Vegas to Grand Canyon Southern Rim
Hi
My husband and I are planning a trip to US in Aug 13 and will be visiting Grand Canyon. We want to travel from Las Vegas to GC, stay at Bright Angel Lodge & Cabin in GC for two days and then go to Flagstaff for a day. We are not very keen on driving and we have searched the internet but have been unable to find any bus or train service to GC from LA. There are many day trips but no bus or train service. I would really appreciate if you could provide me with any information, recommendation and suggestions...

Posted too soon. It is pricey and does not sleep at the rim, but does get you there. In any case, if you can get over the reluctance to drive, I would opt to rent a car and go on my own. Once out of Vegas the road is pretty easy to go, although it is a long trip.
Otherwise I suppose you could talk to the one day bus tour people and see if they would allow you to go out on one bus and back the next day. You would have to get lodging in park, but would not need a car there as there is a nice shuttle service. They might charge you double the going rate to do the split trip.

The NPS lists several shuttle services between Flagstaff and Grand Canyon NP. I'd first look into those. You can get to Flagstaff from LV by Greyhound bus, but transportation within Flagstaff is very problematic. Taxis are expensive, and this is a driving destinations. You'd need to stay in the historic dowtown to be able to walk to restaurants.
A tour bus from LV to the Grand Canyon may be a possibility, but you'd need to talk directly to the company to see if they'd take you and your luggage (these are day tours, after all).
You can fly to the Grand Canyon airport from LV (expensive, but certainly possible). From there, take a taxi or shuttle service to the hotel. These are available.
Finally, there may be another way to get to the Grand Canyon, though it's hardly worth the cost and effort. You MAY be able to take a Greyhound bus from Las Vegas to Williams, AZ, from where you can catch the Grand Canyon Railroad. But this seems particularly annoying and time-consuming to me.
Either way, all of these options are more expensive than driving and are going to entail a certain amount of inconvenience. You do not need a car at the park, but a few days car rental with drop off again in LV is your best option, and then you can either fly or take a bus to LA from there.

Would you be able to recommend any particular car rental..I am hoping that I would be able to drop off the car at Vegas airport as I intend to go back to Vegas from Grand Canyon and fly to San Francisco on the same day.
Since I do not have too many days I will have to drop off Flagstaff from my schedule.
I have not yet booked at Bright Angel. They don't have online reservation facility but would book asap over phone.

You can use any of the major car rentals (Hertz, Avis, Dollar, Budget, etc.). In Las Vegas, I've found that Hertz and Dollar often offer the best rates, but if you are renting from outside of the U.S., you'll likely get prices that include insurance). All of the car-rental operators work out of the same facility at LV airport now, so there's no real advantage of one over another as long as you stick with majors and compare prices.
I think you'll still find that a car to be a cheaper option all around than anything else. But it's a long drive back to Las Vegas from the Grand Canyon, so make sure you don't have a flight to San Francisco before early afternoon and allow about 30 extra minutes to do the drop-off since you have to get a shuttle from the rental facility back to the airport.
