Tour Guide for Jewish areas of Paris

We are six adults going to Paris in July we have all been there before but it has been many years. We would like a half day tour of "Jewish Paris." Does anyone have the name of a tour guide for us.

Thanks

It must exist, but one thing to consider is whether you want to see the historic Jewish area in the Marais or the modern Jewish areas where most of the Jewish population now lives (the 19th arrondissement).

A site that might be of interest is the Jewish Memorial right behind Notre Dame.
Down the steps to the narrow hallway and the wall imbedded iwith crystals commemorating the deportees.. Moving! Not an area, just a spot to experience.

Hi Ladyrep,

Sorry I do not know of any such tour in Paris, but I would strongly recommend your visiting the Musee Nissim de Camondo in the 8th if you have not already done so. This palatial residence was built at the turn of the century by Moise de Camado, a wealthy Jewish banker who left the house and fabulous collections to the city after his only son was killed in WWI.

Unfortunately, his surviving daughter and her family were killed in the Holocaust. The poignant genealogy of the family with photos and memorabilia are displayed in one of the upstairs rooms.

The Camondo is near Monceau Park, a lovely enclave where many wealthy Jewish families lived around that time. The neighborhood is also mentioned in THE HARE WITH AMBER EYES: A Family’s Century of Art and Loss by Edmund de Waal with emphasis on the Ephrussi and Rothchild families who also had homes in the Monceau Park area.

Enjoy Paris…

Try Jewish Paris Walking Tours at http://www.jewishpariswalkingtoursan...ish-Tours.html

If you want, you can also contact Dominique Binder in Barcelona who may be able to point you in the right direction ([email protected]).

Context Tours has a Jewish Paris and the Marais tour. Their tours are pricey but worth the money.
