Perfect Rome location - stay where Pope Francis did
I noticed that Pope Francis had stayed in this residence, Domus Internationalis Paulus VI, during the conclave, and it turns out it's available for regular guests too:

Bed and breakfast for a single room is 60 Euros per night.
The location at Via della Scrofa, 70 is just about perfectly central.
I don't see anything about a curfew, but it's possible.
I don't recall any reviews from anyone who's stayed here in Rome; I wonder if any Fodors readers have. I'd definitely consider it from a convenience and price point of view. I couldn't find any online reviews.

sadly, tarquin is right - clergy only.
i know that reasonably -priced centrally located accommodation is at a premium in Rome, but it would be a little extreme to have to convert to catholicism, get divorced, train for the priesthood, and [in my case] change sex, in order to find somewhere decent to stay for a week!

The sex change could be a problem too. In the past, castrati have not been eligible for ordination so I doubt transexuals would be acceptable either.>>
another snag.
looks like i'll just have to go for a common-or-garden hotel or apartment then.

Although, intriguingly, those do appear to be equipped with double beds?
But the site's English is easily misunderstood - having turned:
"Abbiamo a disposizione camere ed appartamenti tutti con telefono e connessione Internet"
... into...
"We offer single rooms or suits, each with telephone and Internet connection"
Perhaps "individual rooms or suites" would have been clearer?
