Barbados next week

Six of us heading to Barbados this month. Our family of four (M, D and 16 /12 year old kids) plus my Mom and Dad(80's). Couple in their 80's are very self-reliant and will go do other things if they don't want to join our family of four....like tours, etc

Staying at Battalays Mews in St Peter. Have a rental car.

Know to go to Olins Fish Fry on Friday night.

Open to recommendations/info for anything, but especially for:
Family of four kayak trip
Beaches to snorkel, that are relatively calm or have light surf for the kids to boogie board
Restaurants-heard Atlantis Hotel has a good Sunday brunch
Good area/place for kids to get gifts

Thanks for your help...as always, it is appreciated!!

Kayak Trip - Don't know of any Kayaking trips but the equivalent of loads of fun would be a banana boat or for even more water sports action, renting jet skis for an hour or two and going for a ride along the coasts. I recently heard about what a great Jet Ski service Clear Blue Watersports Barbados as you can call ahead in advance, organise a number of ski's just for your group etc. Or just hop on any one of the Jet Skis along the west coast beach. For the banana boat ride I often see these off of Mullins beach which is near to where you'll be staying.

Beaches to snorkel - There are a few small wrecks to snorkel, though not great snorkelling but these would be the one just off Folkstone park in St. James and that off the Carlisle Bay Beach in St. Michael

Atlantis does offer an incredibly scrumptious Sunday lunch definitely a must, another great place to eat and quite unexpected is Weisers beach bar on Brighton beach. The food there is really good a mix of traditional Barbados main courses and snacks and casual fries and burgers type meals. The bar is on a wonderful stretch of beach suited to laying out and swimming. For more Barbados cuisine, Lemon Arbour in St. John on Saturday around lunch serves a mean pudding and sous and is a liming spot.

Other than that plenty restaurants serve international fare of excellent quality.

Hope this helps.

Have a great trip

Check google for catamaran cruises. I found some great deals ($50 per person) if you booked in advanced. Nothing like sitting on a net watching the waves go by. That also included breakfast, Lunch, and drinks sodas or beer and rum punch. Honeslty, couldn't find meals that cheap anywhere on the island.

Check out both sides of the Island. On the backside its really rugged with cliff views of the ocean. We stayed at the Crane. Has a beautiful pink beach and a pool on a cliff over looking the ocean/sea.

On the other side of the island you will find the more calm beaches. But both sides worth seeing. When i was there the locals loved to talk about Tiger Woods because he was married there but its probably not as big of a talking point these days. lol. But there are some great golf courses on the island where Tiger was married at as well as several rum making facilites that you can do tours with. but im more of an outside person so did that one day while its was overcast.

Also did a jeep cruise. which was nice to see the island from its higher points but for the same price we could of taken another catamaran tour which to me i could of done every day. snorkeling with turtles and all kinds of different fish, beautiful water, meals and drinks, how can you go wrong?

Delishbajansauce/kaine 19,

Thanks for the info. Appreciated.

Do cell phones work there? Wondering for our teenage daughter who loves to snapchat, text and instagram. Should we bring our laptop....not for work stuff?

What are the three things you would recommend NOT TO MISS?

Thanks,
col4ever

Thanks,

Providing you cell phones have a roaming data plan with your carrier, they should work fine. Another alternative which is used quite a bit is having an unlocked phone. With the unlocked phone you can purchase local pay-as-you-go cards to keep the cost of making calls and surfing the internet manageable.

Definitely include the laptop as a just in case there's spare time but not for work

Three things not to miss would be ...

Something sea and fun, like swimming with the Turtles on one of the Catamaran cruises - Jammin or Tiami etc.

Some on land action adventure - island Safari or Aerial trek Zip lining

Something tamed - Harrisons Cave , Mount Gay Visitors Centre Rum Tour

That's more like 6 things in disguise, but all are nice things to do.
