Nice but inexpensive places to stay in Santa Fe and Taos?
Hi,
Will be in this area in early August. Don't want to spend a ton of money, but looking for a nice place to stay for 1 or 2 nights. Thanks. Dawn and Peter

And when you get to Santa Fe, you'll wish you had stayed longer in Taos. There's an atmosphere here that needs to be savored, not rushed. First the mountains grip you, then the mesa & then just about everything else.
I highly recommend staying at La Dona Luz Inn, a sanctuary in the heart of downtown Taos, across the street from the Taos Plaza. You're within walking distance of many historical & cultural sights as well as oodles of tasty restaurants, including nearby La Cueva.

I also suggest Sage Inn as well as Garrett's Desert Inn, Hotel Chimayo and The Lodge at Santa Fe (may want to drive into the plaza from here but it is still a good location and price). Sage Inn has a shuttle that will take you into the plaza. Garrett's is right off of the plaza as is Hotel Chimayo which is next door to the Inn of the Anasazi.
August prices are high season so you could also try priceline if you don't care where you stay.
* I do not recommend staying on Cerillos Road. It's a busy 3-lane street and not the charm of the plaza area of Santa Fe.

Sage Inn and The Lodge at Santa Fe is showing a bit over at $114 and $111 for the second weekend in August. I like El Rey as well if you don't mind staying out of the plaza area. Bonus is that you are next to The Patio for a local's favorite for breakfast.
Indian Market is the 12th-18th of August bringing high rates on lodging. If you are coming during this time I highly recommend you book something as soon as it makes sense for you. It's busy busy but it's also a very exciting time to be in Santa Fe.
