Virgin Gorda = Amazing Beaches, Peace and Quiet
A while back I posted here looking for suggestions for my next vacation. Fodorites led me to Virgin Gorda, with its beautiful beaches and excellent snorkeling. Having just spent a week on the island, we were in awe! If you love nature, amazing beaches and virtually no crowds, this island is for you. I wrote a brief trip report with some photos at

Thanks TPAYT, we really did enjoy ourselves! Virginia, we cooked breakfast at home every day (we brought our own coffee from home) and bought sandwich meat (sliced turkey and cheese) for our lunches at the beach. We were able to buy some food at the small store at Guavaberry but went to Buck's Market at the Yacht Harbor in Spanish Town twice. Because folks on yachts and boats use Buck's for provisioning, it's pretty well stocked! Prices for eggs, bread, cheeses, cold cuts, etc. were pretty reasonable. Buck's sold wine, liquor and beer. We didn't cook dinner at home so I cannot comment on the steaks, chicken, fish, etc.

Fantastic blog! Your pictures beautifully captured the island and made me want to go back asap. You are so right about the trek to get there. A bit difficult, but totally worth it. We usually fly into tortola for better ferry times. We make sure we grab a drink as soon we leave the airport and hit the ferry dock. We usually stay at a villa in nail bay, but honestly, any where on the island is fantastic.

Thanks RileyD. We flew into STT and had two painkillers right away while waiting for the ferry! I went back and forth on where to stay on the island but you are right, everywhere is fantastic!

Virgin Gorda is a boring island with so-so beaches and unfriendly people. Your pictures looked photoshopped - I don't believe the island is that stunning. Really, there's no reason for anyone else to go there. Except me.

I’ve always thought the Virgin Gordo looked absolutely beautiful; thanks for the share. I would love to stay there at one point but I am a bit concerned about the limited medical facilities on the island. Can you do day trips from Tortola or is it too much of a trek?

Jimmie, I must admit your comment caught me off guard at first but gave me a good chuckle at the end!
Doncallmecass, I think there's a small medical clinic on VG but I think day trips from Tortola would work. The ferry from Spanish Town to Road Town is less than 45 minutes, I believe.

I have been fortunate to see many islands in the Caribbean, EXCEPT Virgin Gorda....and for I like to do on vacation, it seems like it will be my paradise. It has been on my wishlist for a while now, but had to settle for a cheaper Mexico trip for our last journey. I will get there someday to see those amazing beaches....thanks for the fix while I sit in my cube and dream!!
