OSTUNI: Help!

I am looking for more information on Ostuni and am finding it difficult. I am thinking of going for two weeks in early May and staying in Ostuni. I wouldn't be opposed to seeing a few places close by but really just want to walk along the beaches/explore town and not do too much. I do not want to rent a car it at all possible.

Can anyone tell me:
1) How close are the beaches (villanova, etc) to Ostuni. Can you walk there?
2) How far/difficult is the walk from the train station to the city centre?

You can't walk to the beach from Ostuni. It is perched on a hill and the coast is approx. 10 km from there, and that is at the closest point.

I also think you would need a car to enjoy the area for two weeks. Ostuni is quite small and I don't think there is enough around to keep me interested for that long without a car.

Ostuni is on two levels, one part is on top of the Murge (about 300m above sea level) while the rest is on the hill leading down to the coast plateau which is something like 20m above sea level. If you look at Ostuni on google maps and have the terrain switch on you can see which bits are which and so which hotels are where. Roughly the old town is on the top. The railway is on the coastal plateau. Is there a station?

Are you set on Ostuni,or would you consider a town set on a beach, such as Otranto, Santa Maria al Bagno, Polignano, etc?
