My wife and I are taking flight From Paris to Venice. We will have a lot of heavy luggage since I am a photographer.Among four bags over a hundred pounds. Has anyone had experience with these high baggage charges with Easyjet

OK - I'm confused. You're not considering CHECKING camera equipment are you? that is close to madness.

And there is no way you can take that much luggage onto the plane with you.

You are each allowed one (1) piece of hand luggage. This includes a purse or briefcase. It is NOT one piece and a personal item - it is one piece total - and it must fit under the seat in front of you.

Well the rules are quite clear (from the website)

"You can take one piece of hand baggage into the cabin with you -no bigger than 56 x 45 x 25cm"

So your cameras and laptop must fit into this one piece of luggage

I believe there is still no weight limit on easyjet with carryon but they are STRICT with size.

I think that will work. Do most planes have overhead bins? I left Florence last time and all carryon luggage had to be stored in a special bin along with everyone elses. It was stil in the main cabin. Does Easyjet weigh the carryon luggage? Will the average carryon fit under the seat in front of you? Is that where it needs to go?

So lets assume the size is correct on the carryon luggage.that leaves two more bags to be checked in at amaxium weight of 40 kg (20kg each) So any overage should be only on the checked baggage. There's no one to talk to but you folks. Easyjet won't answer this kind of question.

If I were you, with all that luggage, I would look into traveling by train. There is a Fodor discussion of this: Train from Paris to Venice - How Long ? It looks like the overnight train takes about 10 hours. Might be worth a look.

I thought about the train, and we like it. We plan to take the train from Venice to Florence. But not for 10 hours.

The idea is that you're asleep for most of it, saving a hotel night. Eat dinner on the train, arrive in time for breakfast.

As someone who has taken EasyJet regularly for 4 years now, don't even think about trying to check in with that quantity of luggage. You will not get on the plane! You're only allowed 20 kilos for ONE checked-in bag and although they don't weigh the carry-on, they are brutal with the size of yours. If they think it's too big they will make you try and fit it in their little form and I've seen folks in tears trying to jam their big carry-ons into it. They don't weigh it, but they sure are sticklers for the size. Their website will tell you the dimensions you're allowed. Women cannot even carry a purse, unless it fits into your carry-on before you board. Your carry-on must go in to the overhead bin. The tickets are cheap partly because they are strict with the weight of the plane.
So it's either the train or a regular airline where you can pay for over weight luggage!

I fly them a lot, haven't ever exceeded their limits but they are strictly applied, I have friends who can attest to this and have seen frantic pitching and repacking scenes at airports.

The SIZE is strictly controlled for you ONE carry-on. The weight is not checked but you have to be able to heft it in to the overhead space yourself or fit it under the seat in front of you.

The WEIGHT is strictly controlled on your checked bag. It's 20 kg as you know. If you are going over the weight limit, you pay the set fee to check your bag, plus $10 per kg excess fee over the 20 kg, per their website this morning. That is the excess fee if you pay online, it's more at check-in. So, if your bag is 25 kg, you pay the fee for checking a bag plus an additional $50 online when you book.

Thanks, so much! You have answered the biggest question that is the carryon will not be weighed! I'll make sure the size is right.I appreciate you frequent Easyjet fliers advice.

good luck if they allow anything extra you will pay through the nose for it.. Easyjet and the like are cheap for a reason, and they are tough.

easyJet and <u>6 cameras/valuable lenses</u> are not at all a match. You need to either take the train or fly an airline that has more generous carry-on/checked baggage policies.

easyJet is great - but NOT for your situation.

yes, they WILL enforce their rules, or at least you can't count on them not doing so.

an example - flying to Barcelona from Bristol, i was stopped at the gate because though my bag was within limits, the wheels took it over, so it had to go in the hold and i had to pay for it to do so there and then. [2x what it would have cost if I'd opted to put it in the hold from the start].

coming home, the staff at Barcelona were assiduous in enforcing the "one carry-on item" rule, to the extent of not allowing handbag and a camera. muchos stuffing of handbags in carry-on bags, etc. but no measuring of carry-on bags at all, and I've never seen them weigh one - they don't have those facilities at the gate.

between you you will have a 40kg checked luggage allowance [which you may pool, eg 18kgs in one bag, and 22kgs in another] and two carry-ons within the size limits. that's it.

The carry-on size that Easy Jet allows is NOT the standard US carry-on - which is 22". In europe the usual carry-on is 19" - and that includes the wheels and the handle.

I have seen americans have to gate check their carry-ons (that were a normal US size) in various european airport - for regular airlines - not EasyJet - which is stricter. I cannot imagine how you will get all those cameras and lenses in the very tiny carry-on allowed. And if you have to gate-check them - what do you think are the chances you will receive them back - and in perfect condition?

Before booking this I would get a carry-on that fits those measurements (including wheels an handle) and see what you can fit in it?

The Easyjet website states that hand baggage should not no bigger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm incl wheels which must fit comfortably into the baggage gauge.

If you convert cm to inches, it is the following approximately:-

22" x 17.7" x 10"
