Your questions are much too general.

There's no one "best time" to visit Puerto Rico - tourists visit the island all year long. It's a very big island, with many places you can visit and literally hundreds, if not thousands of things to do and places to see. Puerto rico is one of the few islands that doesn't really "close down" in late summer and early fall. Average daytime Temperatures don't vary more than about 5 degrees F. between summer and winter, although the humidity is higher in summer. It's breezier in winter and there tends to be a bit more rain and/or threat of tropical storms in late August through November but if there are no storms nearby weather can be great at that time of year.

You can visit large cities like San Juan, small towns, tiny villages, secluded resorts, rain forests, etc. There's historical sights, hiking trails, all types of water sports, sophisticated shops, wonderful beaches, etc. - everything imaginable.

Your best bet is to do some "reading" research. Do a few internet searches using such topics "Things to do Puerto Rico", "Places to see in Puerto Rico" and you'll find tons of information at your fingertips.

Once you do your research and narrow down where in Puerto Rico you think you'd like to visit you can come back and ask some specific questions.

Thanks for the advice. I have done some research but was trying to gain responses from people with personal experience before I narrowed it down.

You'll get more responses if you provide us with more specifics on what your interests are, what type of activities you enjoy, what you like to do & see, what you expect from a Caribbean "island" vacation. Tell us more about you like your age and age of others in your party. If traveling alone it helps to know your gender. The more you tell us about yourself and your likes & dislikes the easier it is to steer you in the right direction.

Many of the regular contributors, me included, have been to Puerto Rico numerous times and happy to make suggestions but you have to give us some idea of what you are looking for.

We are currently researching PR for our vacation this year. We are looking at 3 nights and then starting a Southern Caribbean cruise. I have been to PR back in the 80's so a few things I found sounded familiar and a few things not so much. Definitely go to the El Yunque Rainforest. There are several ways to see it from lax to strenuous. I also found food tasting tours, bar hopping tours, city tours, day trips to Culebra and Vieques, snorkeling/sailing, golf, shopping and casinos.

It really depends are what you are looking for. I did a google search for 'things to do' and 'tours'. I also read the PR forum here with people's suggestions and trip reports.

I like to avoid Caribbean Islands during hurricane season specifically the months of August, September and October. Between December 16 and the 1st of May is high season, so prices and crowds do go up. I do not like to travel in February, March or April due to Spring Break/Easter Break. Too expensive and too many kids.
