Rome to Sorrento and visiting the towns around the amalfi coast

Hello,

Wanted some advice as 5 adults are traveling, either from Rome to Sorrento or Naples to Sorrento in June (first or second week). I've seeing several comments, alerting us not to drive here...So, I want to know the most comfortable and less costly way to travel from either place. And, any recomendations of a farmhouse or placve you may have in mind would be appreciated! I read italian very well, and can speak it a bit (similar to my spanish

Your helop is greatly appreciated!!!

Ciao

Getting to Sorrento is not hard from either Naples or Rome since rail lines run that far---it is beyond there on the AC where it gets dicey.

Start your quest for a rental/villa at this lovely site---they are good people and will help you find the right place.

Train is fine through Sorrento. After that is ferry or god awful bus (10 mph in hideous traffic and a lot of people standing the whole way).

We go in May and rent a car and drive everywhere with no problem. Later in the year - I would stick with ferries - many from Sorrento.

We are doing the same exact trip for our Honeymoon the last week of April/beginning of May. We are taking the train from Rome to Naples, and then we are actually having a car take us to Sorrento.

What places on the Amalfi were you looking to go to? I really want to go to Positano, but not sure of where else to go. We also have trips to Pompeii and Capri planned.

If you are staying in Sorrento, I assume you don't want to see much of the Amalfi Coast (since Sorrento isn't actually on the Amalfi Coast, but near the A/C). Direct train Rome to Naples and then if you are going on to Sorrento you take the Circumvesuviana train fron Naples to Sorrento. Train from Sorrento to Pompeii and Ercolano. Ferry to Capri. Ferry or bus to Positano (first town on the Amalfi coast). Ferry or bus from Positano to the other towns on the Amalfi Coast.

My husband and I have decided to rent a villa in MAIORI, near Salermo!! it seems to be in the heart of it all, unless ya'll have a better suggestion. We will stay in Roma for a couple of days but we really want to visit the coastal towns

My guess is: Once we arrive to Roma, we will take a train to the Tiburtina train station and go to Salermo. In Salerno we will hire a driver to pick us up at the station and take us to the villa, doing the same thing when going home...What you think? I want to visit Positano, Amalfi and whatever you recomend. Any local seafood recomendations? Grazie mile

EKC, you are right; Sorrento won't do it for us! We want to be in the Amalfi ornext/near it. So we are staying in Maiori. Thanks for the heads up!

@COCO6224; Congrats on your marriage and fabulous honeymoon!!
You definitely want to visit Positano! I've seeing pictures of the town and coastal area...It looks amazing! We are planning to travel first or second week of June 2013 and be there for 10 days. Rome maybe a couple of days only. We want to spend as many days integrating with the locals
