Driving from Midland, MI to Chicago

Hi y'all,
I plan to drive from Midland, MI to Chicago. Most maps suggest driving west from Midland toward South Heaven, MI. It seems there is a long drive along the Lake. The view I am sure is beautiful but I'd rather get to the destination as fast as I can. Can I drive 60-70 mph along the Lake or this is one of those scenic drives that everyone goes 10-20 mph? Which route do you suggest to be the fastest to get to Chicago? Thanks a bunch

I am not familiar with your driving route but when my cousins in Michigan meet me in Chicago, they take the train from Grand Rapids. This eliminates the expensive parking options in downtown Chicago.

Hmm! I haven't thought about the train. I suppose I can find the train schedule/cost/routes on Grand Rapids City website. Is that correct? Thanks

If the route you were given is 196 to 94, both are four lane express ways. They do not actually go right along the lake.

I think the rates would be on Amtrak's website--or just google Michigan train to Chicago

Which way did you go pedalpaddler? Are you based in Midland?

When DH and I head to Chicago area we've started going through Grand Rapids to avoid I94 through Kalamazoo/Battle Creek. The train is convenient and can be picked up in Flint or E. Lansing.
