Roatan

Already thinking ahead for our next trip. Would those of you who have been to Roatan please comment. Did you feel safe, what are the beaches like, etc. WE have done many areas in Mexico, Hawaii and are looking for another place to just hang on a beach and relax. I love a nice walking beach and if there is good snorkeling that is a bonus.

We're planning a trip to Roatan too. I haven't had much luck getting info from people on here. Tripadvisor forum is very active with tons of info.

thanks I'll check that. This site seems more targeted towards European travelers. Any by the way I always value their opinions.

We've visited Roatán twice for about 2 weeks each time. My photos with blog, travelogue, and review site links on the main page of each collection are below in case you'd like to check them out. We like to stay a bit off the beaten track and prepare most of our own meals and flyfishing, diving, and snorkeling are higher priorities for us than beach time. Happy trails!

I look at Trip Advisor and most recommended visit in March or April, I doubt that will work for us this year. We'll see.

We only had a day on Roatan, cruise ship stop, but would love to go back for a longer stay. The snorkeling on the westend side of the island is very good! We booked through Bananarama and would highly recommend giving their property / snorkel & dive operations a look. The beach is nice and the reef is only 25 yards so from shore. enjoy!

We've loved our summer visits - the rainy season doesn't usually hit the Bay Islands until later, like October. Technically the summer months are within hurricane season so trip insurance is a good idea, even though chances are slim to have your trip affected by one.

The snorkeling in Roatan was the best I have ever done. Absolutely amazing. Rent a small boat for about $50 or $60 a couple (half day) and you will be taken to some absolutely amazing snorkeling areas.

We stayed at Infinity Bay. A bit larger than what we normally like but the food was good and snorkeling and swimming right off the beach was excellent. Two things to be wary of though, the cruise ships dock not to far from here (the hotel is in the West Bay area) and there are lots of sand flies on the beach. We made sure not to be here when the cruise ships were in dock. Safety was not a concern for us here.

We then went to the Lodge at Pico Bonito. We liked it there also but it was mostly birding and day tours to the mangroves for kayaking, etc.
