Transit through CDG: Do I need to recheck bags?

Transit through CDG: Do I need to recheck bags?
Haven't transited through CDG in a while and I can't remember. We are going through CDG on our way to Nantes. Will we need to clear customs in CDG? Will we need to collect our bags and recheck there or will they go on to Nantes and we collect them there?

Patty is correct IME.
If you have not been given your Nantes boarding pass for some reason or another ( happens some times) then you go to a transfer desk after immigration passport control to get it.
I have always had to leave the secure area to catch my connecting flight at CDG . I assume you will have to do the same and go through security again in the assigned terminal.

Stu, La Cigale is on the itinerary as the first thing to do in Nantes. Such a beautiful place.
Yes, I know I have to pick up and re-check in ATL, that's why I was wondering if the same would apply at first place of entry to Europe. Have been to CDG often but not as a transit in a long time. Glad we will be able to check through. Will save at least one headache.
Judy, we leave tomorrow and return on Oct. 6. We'll undoubtedly have lots of pix. Now if I can just delete the fool google plus thing I accidentally installed on my Picasa, so I can make them available, I'll post them here on return.

When do you fly? Your Delta flight will arrive in 2E. Currently the Nantes flight departs from 2D but starting Oct, Air France is supposed to be consolidating all of their flights within the F/G/E concourses of terminal 2. I'm guessing Nantes will move to 2F and there should be less chances of concourse roulette by the end of the year. You'll also need to go through security at CDG as you'll be arriving from outside of the Schengen area.

The only transfer I'm aware of that currently doesn't require re-clearing security is 2G to 2E (but not the other way around) as long as you take the airside bus and don't accidentally exit 2G landside. By the end of the year, you also shouldn't need to clear security on a 2F to 2E transfer. I believe this is part of the reason they're building the airside passageway between 2F and the 2E K gates. But again it only works one direction if you're originating from within the Schengen area as the member countries have adopted standardized security procedures.

We have ample time on the connection so we should be fine moving between 2E and 2F

You'll go through immigration/passport control at CDG. You'll won't see your bags until Nantes.>
so do French Douanes check or inspect the bags in Nantes or do they just not check bags at all - I assume they in theory do screen checked bags upon arrival at CDG so in effect you and your bags clear Customs there.

Customs is technically in Nantes but this is usually a non-event. There are different colored tags for luggage from within the EU vs from outside of the EU. That's how they know which bags might theoretically need to be inspected but I've never actually seen anyone inspect bags.

Bugs and microscopic mites/bacteria/fungus, etc. are a HUGE danger to the WORLD and different continents. It is not to be taken lightly as mentioned above.

Or in my case when a beagle dog put its head on my carry-on pack whilst I was waiting for my checked bags to appear = and would not lift his head under the agent told him to - my crime - I had had a carrot in that bag and was eating it actually whilst waiting for my checked luggage to appear - knowing that I may not be able to bring the carrot into the country (I probably could have - only certain things are restricted but I always check 'no fruit or veg' as to not be hassled - I was sent to a special station where my bags went thru some machine that would detect any vegestable or fruitable matter - none of which was found - the hound had just smelled where my carrot had been in the bag but was not there anymore.
Customs agent apologized to me for the whole thing.
