Sunday musical church service

We will be in Amsterdam on September 9th. We would like to find a church service with beautiful music. We would like an historic church, if possible. I have tried to locate something online but have not been able to come up with anything. Any assistance that you could give me would be appreciated.

That's one of my favorite things to do. Sorry I can't help you with Amsterdam. Copenhagen, Vienna, Assisi, Salzburg, Prague, Krakow, London---all different stories. But not Amsterdam.

We went to St. Thomas, which has English language Masses. I don't recall the music in that church, but there were children having their first communion at the Mass we attended, which was very sweet.

We had intended to go to the Church of Our Lady Victorious, but St. Thomas was closer, so we went there. The Church of Our Lady Victorious has the famous statue of the Infant of Prague. I wish I'd seen that statue, since I heard of it at my Catholic elementary school.

If you're in one of the other cities at some time in the future, you might post here, and I'll tell you what I know. I don't recall the music in Salzburg or Prague, but I remember it well in the other cities.

The Jesuit church on the canal near the flower market. Sorry I don't recall it's name.

I was on line yesterday looking for the same thing. If you are ever in Paris do go to St. Eutace in the Les Halles area.

Have you tried googling the church you already attend? You might find both beautiful music and building.

Sorry I hit submit too soon, "beautiful music" could mean different things. I've visited churches that are similar to my faith in different cities and the music has been what I like and know.

Oude Kerk has beautiful services and also wonderful evensong - vespers. Of course it's all protestant. If you're looking for Mass, the St Nicholas church springs to mind, or De Krijtberg.

Nieuwe Kerk can also be very interesting

Thank all of you for your assistance. It seems like there are a lot of Saturday eve evensong services but we might be too jet lagged. It is such a perfect way to see a church. I am still looking.

Here's a comprehensive list - it appears there are 25 Engllish language churches in Amsterdam:

My bet for best music is Russian Orthodox (St. Nicholas, mentioned above). Especially OK is you would rather just listen. Pretty much everything is sung or chanted (except the sermon).

Anglican churches (Episcopal in the US) also usually have above average music in their services. Good luck - you may want to contact them and ask about the extent/level/type of music they have in their services.

Agreeing that knowing the denomination you are interested in would help - since the music will vary tremendously. Obviously Netherlands is mostly protestant, but there are churches of other religions if you are looking for something specific.

Services in English are another matter.

I thought St Nicolaas is Roman Catholic, not Russian Orthodox. The Russian Orthodox church also has St Nicholas as its patron saint, but is at Lijnbaansgracht, not at Prins Hendrikkade.

This won't work for you because the season doesn't start again until October but this article I googled sounds great:

Just came back from Brussels. St. Michael's Cathedral has a Gregorian Mass at 10 am on Sundays.
