I always obsess about what to wear or pack. Would shorts/capris that strike just below the knee be okay? I think they are called skimmers. I don't wear skirts, pants might be too hot. I'll pack some Merrell sandals and a pair of Tevas, t-shirts (no sleeveless stuff) and a jacket. I don't want to take a bunch of luggage, we will be on public buses and it would be a nuisance to drag it around. BTW, I am a woman of a certain age and my legs are still pretty.

Sounds ok to me..Just like what I would do.
except..a pashime would probably come in very handy. When I was in Spain both in Oct and again in April scarves of any type were de rigour..I wore capris most of the time and never felt out of whack with the other women except the older gals.they wore mostlt skirts. I am an older one myself but again i never felt out of whack.I did have a pair of flats to dress up just a bit.

I don't wear shorts in Europe, but capris would work well. I don't think lightweight pants would be too warm. I always wear pants.
One of my guide books gives Madrid average temperatures as a high of 77 and low of 57 in September and a high of 65 and a low of 49 in October. I'd assume the temps would be closer to the October temps, since you'll be there in late September.
Those temps are for Madrid. Barcelona and especially Andalusia would be warmer.
I was in Málaga in early April and wished that I'd bought a sweater for evenings.

We spent the month of Sept. in Spain 2 years ago. It was very hot! We were in Barcelona, Madrid and Andalusia. I wore mostly capris. Tevas and Keene sandals were on my feet. Take a sweater for possible cooler evenings, but there was never a 70 degree temp in our trip, mostly in the 90s and I would dart for shady spots. It was a wonderful trip, though, and you will marvel at all the sights. Don't worry about what you are wearing.
