Park City - 6 Days - Things to Do

We will be staying at a time share in Park City for 6 days. Partly to see family in Provo but also to see the sites. What recommendations do you have for day trips or must see in the area/surrounding areas? Interested in fishing, hiking, parks, bike rides, etc...

So many choices. Take the old railroad ride in Heber, and then on to Robert Redford's Sundance resort for a nice drive and also you will be driving along the primo fly fishing - Green River - leading into Provo

Go over to see Alta and Snowbird - and maybe hike over there, as well as by the Canyons 0 down from Park City.

Get up to have lunch at Stein Erickson's Lodge in Deer Valley. Ride the Gondola up the mountain and maybe rent mountain bikes to ride around.

Go into Salt Lake for a day and check out the magnificent old buildings/museums.

Definitely spend some time walking up and down Main Street. Great shops and restaurants.
Also there is the Olympic Park and museum. I haven't been there lately but I know it was fun to see last time I was there.

Park City resort has the Alpine Slide and Coaster, fun for any age.

Mt Biking trails are numerous, if you rent a bike they can give you some hints.
There is also the Rails to Trails path. Again haven't done it, just seen it from the freeway.

Take Main street to the top then head right over to Brighton on Guardsman Pass. You could make it a huge loop if you then head to Snowbird and take the Tram to the top. Then around to American Fork and up the Alpine Highway over to Provo River with a stop for a hike to Stewart Falls. (that really is probably too much to do in one day).

I also love the Uintas and a drive up to Mirror Lake is always a great day. Lots of hikes to chose from in the area, a ramble around the lake is easy, a hike to Mt Baldy will have you huffing and puffing.

Ahhh yes. Good ole Mt. Baldy.

Back in the mid 90's - when I was doing a lot of consulting for a Salt Lake air purification firm, I pretty much lived in a condo in Park City. One sat - 4th of July weekend - a friend of mine who grew up in Salt Lake said - let's climb old Baldy, so we did. It was a warm day - high 80's - and as clear as you could see when we headed up from the parking lot behind Alta - and we only had on tank tops and shorts and tennis shoes, and each carried a bottle of water.

Well, low and behold - just about the time we crest the "little" 11,000 foot peak - a cloud forms (the peaks can create their own weather) and we are getting hailed on, BIG time.

Fearing for a bad case of hypothermia, we raced down the hill and I actually dove inro one of those mountain lakes - and it felt warm by comparison.

Thank you Tomsd and InSandy for the great advice. Sounds like I will have lots of options and great places to see during my stay.

Tomsd, glad you survived that trip to Mt. Baldy.

So many fun things to do in Parky city! Things I would suggest doing:

1. the Egyptian Theatre. It's a historic theather on main street. They have entertainment ranging from stand-up comedy to bands. http://www.egyptiantheatrecompany.org/ check out to see what's playing and order your tickets.

2. The Stein Eriksen Lodge is beautiful and has some of the most amazing food park city has to offer in my oppion. http://www.steinlodge.com/dining You can get a 30$ coupon here

3. The Union Pacific Rail Trail is a very popular site for biking. Has great views and lots of wildlife to be seen, but is suited for more of a juant ride or walk.

4. The Alpine coaster is a must.

Those are just a few things off the top of my head! I hope you enjoy your trip

Indeed -- PC is perfectly beautiful right now, but if you do get down to Salt Lake, the new Natural History Museum of Utah is truly worth a visit -- nmhu.utah.edu. It gives you a magnificent vista over the Salt Lake valley and explains lots of the fabulous natural things you'll be enjoying. Have fun!
