First Time Hawaii trip

If you could only go to one of the Hawaiian islands which one would be the best choice?

Your title makes it sound like this is your first trip ever to Hawaii. In that case, Oahu. Why not visit Waikiki and Pearl Harbor and the north shore and Diamondhead... etc.

You will get a variety of opinions in here - and you should read the many posts under Hawaii.

Our personal favorite is the North Shore - Bali Hai - lush vegetation of Kauai (check out Song Doc's posts in particular) - with Big Island a Co-favorite, but we also love Maui and Oahu, which are the 4 main islands, and have also enjoyed our short trips to Molokai and Lanai.

Any one, or two - would be fine your first time really.

Oahu is always a good starting point. BTW - how many days do you think you will have over in Paradise?

O'ahu. In fact i have had several trips where it was the only island we went to.

I think you can get the best overview of the islands' history there. There are hotel choices to fit any budget. I enjoy Waikiki...the beach, the gentle to moderate surf, numerous good restaurants, live music venues, shopping if you want. O'ahu has numerous beautiful beaches as well as hiking, snorkeling, and other outdoor activities.
