Good Road Food

Traveling from Illinois to Florida next week... any suggestions for places to stop and get a bite off the road. Route is: 65 to 24 outside of Nashville then 75 outside of Chattanooga through Florida. I've had some good suggestions for around the Chattanooga/Dalton area but welcome more. We are trying to find good local places.

Thanks.

Try the Whistle Stop in little Glendale, KY, the next exit south of Elizabethtown on I-65. It is just beside the railroad tracks and features down home cooking such as fried green tomatoes and fried chicken and gravy. Their meatloaf is good, as are their pies. I like the coconut cream meringue, and a friend likes the sugar cream (baked filling with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top).

Aunt Fanny's in Ocala Florida. Wonderful food and sassy waitresses.
If you are going to St. Petersburg try Biff Burger on 49th Street. They are an old fashioned drive in that has a classic car show every Friday night.

The Smoke House Restaurant on Monteagle Mountain between Nashville and Chattanooga was always the place to stop before there was a Cracker Barrel at every exit!

I'd also check out the website for Guy Fiere's Diners, Drive'Ins, and Dives. He seems to come up with some interesting places:
