15 nights in Madrid and southern Spain
Will be in Spain 15 nights this August. Flying in and out of Madrid. Have already decided to drop Barcelona (was there two years ago) in favor of southern Spain which I have never seen. Am not interested in beaches. Am thinking Sevilla, Cordoba and Granada plus 3 or 4 nights in Madrid including day trip to Toledo. Will travel by train. If 3 or 4 nights in Sevilla, 1 in Cordoba, 2 in Granada, leaves me with some more time - unless I am planning wrong. Would love some input.

This August? Good luck! It has been rather warm, 105ºF today in Sevilla, 107ºF tomorrow. Granada is cooler by a couple of degrees because of the elevation. Where ever you decide to stay, make sure the A/C works well. You'll need it.

Take a look at Málaga at the coast. Genuine Andalusian atmosphere, great tapas bars, restaurants, cafés and nightlife. The newly excavated Roman theater, the 8-11th century Moorish Alcazaba, the 16th century cathedral, Picasso's birth-place and the Picasso museum and the brand new Carmen Thyssen Museum within 300 meters in the center. http://www.andalucia.com/cities/malaga/home.htm
One of my absolute favourite cities in Spain after 25 years of intensive travelling in the country:

I agree Malaga is well worth visiting. By-passed by most tourists in favour of Seville/Cordoba/Granada or southern coastal resorts.
Rather you than me in August. Visiting daughter in Madrid early July was hot enough for me....topping 38 degrees C some days

Looks like the temperature in Málaga is dropping to some 32-33 C from the beginning of next week.

Also dropping almost 10 C in Sevilla, expect some 34-35C in the beg of next week: http://www.aemet.es/es/eltiempo/pred...evilla-id41091

I would stay away from the inland regions in mid summer,, as it can be unbearably hot and sticky.. and could affect your stay.. as it can make you sluggish.. especially for children. Head for the coast.. in search of the sea breeze.. and you can always take a day trips to the inland regions... late afternoon when its slightly cooler.
There are still plenty of interesting places to visit, closer to the coast of Malga.. such as Casares, Gaucin, Jimena, Ronda, Istan, Ojen, Mijas, Viñuela etc etc. Take a trip to Morocco for a truly unforgettable experience..( only a 40 min ferry trip away!)
We offer a beachfront apartment in Estepona, on the western end of the costa del sol -with rates from 250 pounds per week. For longer lets, we offer great discounts.
Ideal location to enjoy the numerous golf courses, the Andalucian white villages, miles of sandy coastline ... Under an hour´s drive from Malaga, and 30 mins to Gibraltar.

Thanks all! Had a great two weeks in Spain.
4 nights in Madrid (with day trip to Toledo)
3 nights in Sevilla
2 nights in Granada
2 nights in Cordova
2 nights in Malaga
2 nights in Madrid (with a day trip to Segovia)
Full without being packed. Big tip: The new Spain Pass for train from Renfe is a great deal and much better than the Eurrail. Available with your passport at major train stations.
The Mezquita in Cordova was our favorite - take the night tour - it is instructive and gives a sense of the magic of the place.
Thanks again
