Crotia - Montenegro Day Trip

We are planning to take a day trip to Montenegro from Dubrovnik in September using Viator or travel through a private guide. Viator vs. private guide is about $100 less. Is the company reliable or highly recognized by local tour operator? Do they make lots of pick-ups from various hotels before the actual trip? According to Viator's side their tour takes about 10-12 hrs; the private guide stated it'll be 9-10 hrs. Will appreciate your comments. Thank you.

Have you considered renting a car for the day? That worked well for me.

We toot the group tour a few years ago and it was just fine. I would not want to drive myself, especially that steep twisty road up from Kotor. Stuff of nightmares!

Kja did not consider driving as this day tour will be the 2nd to the last day of our Croatia trip before going back home (USO) and we just want to relax.

we rented a car in dubrovnik and drove to montenegro. it was no big deal. there's turns (plenty of them) but the roads are nice and well marked. i definitely will not say it's a scary drive. navigating is easy too since there's only 1 main highway so it's hard to get "lost". if you take the car ferry coming back, it is a much shorter drive since the ferry takes you across the narrow point of the bay and gets you back to almost the first quarter of the highway where you started around the bay. rick steves' croatia guidebook has good commentary of the sights you will see along the way to kotor.

forgot to add, if you have time, make a stop in the tiny, quaint town of perast.
