Latest Shoe styles for travel is?

I know there have been many threads on this but couldn't help but ask today. I bought a pair of Teva's because someone on here suggested, they kill my feet, the strap is too high, I have a high instep...Lived in the desert too long, too many days of flip flops but I have to find something soon to break in for September trip......Suggestions.....I heard Keen is great shoe......I know it sounds silly not to go for total comfort but I can't bear to wear old grandma looking shoes......

Thanks

I have a high instep and I wear Ecco sandals. Mine look a bit different from these but they are close enough. I can walk in them all day.

I saw this shoe in a store yesterday, but they were not in my size or I would have snapped them up.

Usually I don't like wearing open-toed shoes when visiting cities.

I love my Keens (3 pairs: closed toe sandals, sneakers, and "mary jane" style shoes). I took the sandals to Italy with me two years ago and they were great for the bit of hiking we did. But personally I don't think I'd wear either the sandals or sneakers in a European city... To where will you be traveling?

PS. I just ordered The North Face base camp ballet flats in white/grey/green on Zappos for just $50. Yay. Will report back when they arrive.

I took 2 pairs of Mephisto's to Italy this summer. they were great, no issues and no breaking in period. Comfy from the day I put them on. I have a high arch and planters fasciitis. But they are not cheap shoes.

I have taken Eccos like those mentioned by Adrienne above on my last three trips to Europe. They are great and very comfortable. I have both Tevas and Keens but they don't suit me as well, especially for a day of walking. They are both comfortable and I often change into the Tevas for dinner.

The only shoe in the past that I have been able to wear daily with no pain is Joseph Seibel, I just can't find the old style that I had. I am going to Italy, and I agree with you I don't like tourist dirt on my feet, know that wording is harsh. Thank you for your comments.

I thought Teva only made sandals but I now realize they also make shoes. I wear SAS walking shoes, recommended by a local shoe store when I had plantar fasciitis. I also use an orthotic insert. I bought Free Time in nubuck - it looks better in person than in the photo.

I highly recommend Naots. They've gotten more fashionable over the years, so check them out. In Europe ( just got back three weeks ago), a lot of women are wearing Birkenstocks. Those also seem to come in much trendier styles these days. Don't be afraid of bringing/wearing shoes that are comfortable for you, especially since you may be walking on a lot of cobblestone streets.

The Joseph Seibel Ida Capril is really a cute shoe. I bought some Birkenstocks in Australia last year, thought I had to have them, a time capsule moment, but I think they hurt at the arch. I will take a look at the Naots....

returntoyourseat,

I have very wide feet with an extremely high arch (I call them Barbie Doll feet because they look just like Barbie's feet = permanently formed for high heels).

I wear Mephisto "Helen" model which comes in many colors. I'm on my third pair, wear them to Italy and live in them all summer. I also wear Munro sandals and booties in W or WW and can walk all day in those in Europe.

Seibel and Naots are not roomy enough for me in the arch or wide enough!

I also order some Clarks now and then. Some fit me and some don't, it's the usual story of how the arch of the style hits. The ones I have, I LOVE. No break in, super comfortable. They also have many styles.

Good luck!

Highjacking this thread a bit, I will be in Paris and want something a little nicer than my usual athletic shoe, but unlike many on this forum, I have no ankles...just cankles, so can't wear a strap across them. Are there more all day walking shoes to suggest without a strap?

Just came back from the Ecco store. The salesman was a bit of a character, he basically told me to get over the fashion statement and go for comfort. So I am home now with them on....and when I look down at my feet I can't believe I have these shoes on but they are comfortable....they are walking shoes, the BIOM technology...expensive and I am standing wondering what I am going to wear with these shoes. Tory Burch and flip flops have ruined my feet. I think back to trips in the past....thinking I can't take one more step to the hotel, begging for a taxi, and the airport gate changes when arriving at destination a blister the size of Dallas....so I am going to try them for the weekend in the house and see.

Um, what ARE you going to wear with them? Were you going for a sports shoe or did the salesman talk you into it?

You can find a comfortable shoe that isn't an athletic shoe.

susncrg - the other day I bought a pair of Cole Hahn (Nike Air) called Monica Ballet - they are really comfortable - may try them for your dress up flat for dinner. I am going to retire my Tory's for this trip and make these my evening shoe. I got them at Nordstroms.

Well actually he was a bit scary....he first put me in my size, and then he thought they needed more room in toe, so he brought out the next size up which look like ski's on my feet..so I did finally go back to my size but I suppose I was going out of there with those shoes...BUT they are really comfortable and I think I could walk miles in them....if I return them I am taking my friends with me.... I have promised myself no more than three pairs of shoes for this trip....and maybe only two.

Susncrg, I don't care for ankle straps, either. Look at the North Face ballet-type shoes I posted above.

Comfy shoes do not have to be awful-looking.

Returntoyourseat, those are good looking walking shoes for Colorado with jeans! Love the color. I would not return them.

Ooh I like the Seibel Ida Caprils and the Ecco sneakers! They're not your "white runner" that are supposedly so typically American, and IMO you can certainly wear them with black or gray pants. Or go for a sporty look with leggings and a skirt or skort? (I can't believe I just wrote the word skort. I hated hated hated them back in the day! But I've been seeing some cute ones in catalogs like Title Nine and Athleta, where the shorts are hidden and the skirt looks... appropriate!)

When my sister was living in Italy two years ago, she owned a number of "comfort" Mary Janes, not as sporty as, say, the Merrill or Sketcher models but not particularly dressy either. They looked cute with a casual skirt and she was comfortable climbing up and down the hilly streets of Sicily in them, and wore them on her travels around the country and continent. (susncrg, with the strap across the arch instead of the ankle, the Mary Jane style might work for you.)

These Clarks come close to what she had:

And these look a little less... athletic:

http://www.zappos.com/product/7943162/color/328 (Hush Puppies)

...I think I might have to try these out these Keens. They could be either really cute or really awful!
