How to travel from Chartres to Blois

I am looking for the most efficient way to travel from Chartres to Blois without having to go back to Paris. Anyone have experience in this? Is a rental car a reasonable choice? Or bus? Any local trains make the trip? Thanks for your help!

Can't be much help, when I did it, I picked up a car in Paris and returned it to Paris. Here is a link for a bus, but I don't speak enough French to give you any details:

There are options but you will need to take a look at them here to decide:

www.voyages-sncf.com (in French only)
www.tgv-europe.com (choose the Other Countries option on the first page to avoid being sent to Rail Europe)

I do not know if it is the most efficient way, but the fastest one seems to be to take the long distance bus from Chartres to Orleans and then the train from Orleans to Blois. For example, I saw a departure at 9h40 arriving at 11h00 in Orleans, and then the train leaves at 12h10 and you arrive in Blois 45 minutes later. I found this on voyages-sncf.com

Looks like you can't get there by train without backtracking to Paris and a couple of changes. Try transbeauce.fr for other options.

From the Transbeauce site, it looks like there's a direct bus service (via Chateaudun) from Chartres gares to Blois gare.

Here's a link to a pdf of the schedule for that line (3A) that's valid through July 6, 2012. Don't readily find any information about the fare except that you can buy a ticket on board.

www.voyages-sncf.com just gave me some pretty complicated train trips (half of which involved returning to Paris) and some others with two train changes or a bus + train combination.

Driving would be quite simple.

I too am interested in getting from Chartres to Blois. I looked at the schedule http://www.transbeauce.fr/ftp/FR_lignes/L3a_BAT4.pdf provided by a previous poster. It looks to me like the bus only runs Mondays and Fridays. Am I reading this correctly ??

Well, I can see that it seems to indicate Mondays and Fridays, but I did a test by putting in an itinerary for Thursday, July 5th. It gives a schedule leaving Chartres at 14:50, arriving Blois 16:50 with no change.

There is an email address on the pdf for customer service: [email protected]

You might try asking if there is service on the day you would need to travel.

Thanks for all the responses . It looks like bus is most direct, but I can't read the bus schedule! Train takes longer, and connects via either Gare Montparnesse or Gare Austerlitz.
