Honeymoon in Barbados
Hi,
My fiance and I are planning our honeymoon to barbados at the end of September. We know that its hurricane season, but its pretty south, so we are crossing our fingers! Can anyone reccommend a nice hotel in barbados? We are looking for something on the beach between $100-$200, maybe the south side of the island?. Also, if we were to fly to another island for the 2nd week of our honeymoon, would we be better off going to Saint Lucia or Grenada? We are looking for a lot of relaxing, but also a place where we can explore!
Thanks so much!
Steph

surfing is on the east coast. the gorgeous tropical palm lined beaches on are the west coast.
you might look at http://www.bougainvillearesort.com/index.cfm
grenada would be very relaxing. caribbean airlines will fly you to grenada for $450/pp and it looks like liat air will fly you for around $215 (i have no clue why the disparity)
st. lucia is nice too but getting around is challenging, so perhaps less relaxing. liat $200ish, caribbean air $400.
personally i wouldn't move. you'll just be getting used to barbados when you'll have to figure out a whole new area. barbados has lots to see/do - i don't think you'll get bored.

Chan Tours does escorted day and over night excursions to St. Lucia, Grenada, the Grenadines and St. Barths.
http://www.chantours.com/day-excursions
It's less complicated to pay one fee and let someone else arrange your day and do all the transfers.
I have found many of the accomendations to be condo or apartments units for rent especially in your stated budget. Many of those are not directly on the beach, but within close proximity.
Accomendations near the Gap seem to have the rougher water, and the less expensive hotel options. The West side has calmer water and the hotels are more pricey.
St. Lucia is a good Island for exploring, but difficult to get around on your own. A guided tour of specific areas/places with transportation would be a good option.

Your fiance will love the festive spirit of Bathsheba beach. It is rugged with the rock formations, but it has nice beaches for surfers. Silver Sands beach is also good for surfing and has showers and a place to change. Lastly, check out the Accra-Rockley beach.
I personally would not do a second island. The temps are warm in Barbados, the food is outstanding, and there is something to be discovered around every corner. You may want to see Harrison's Cave, the St Nicholas Abbey, the wildlife reserve, the art galleries and do a little shopping. Maybe a party cruise on the Jolly Roger.

I really can't see finding something to keep busy for a 2 week honeymoon on any Island. With that much time and other Islands in close proximity, I would definitely try to get the most out of one trip if expenses allow. Personally, I wouldn't know if I would ever get back to such Islands and wouldn't want to waste the opportunity.
When we went to St. Lucia, we had the opportunity for a day trip to the Grenadines and did not do it. I have regretted that decision to this day as I have yet to get there.
We have been looking at going to Barbados in November and only staying for 6 nights and still want to do the day trip to either Grenada or the Grenadines. It can be done with good time management.

Thanks for all the advice! I agree that we would like to spend most of our time on Barbados exploring, but will look into the Chan tours to do a day or overnight trip to another island. If we only had a day or two, would Grenada, the grenadines or tobago be the best way to go?
Also, in barbados we are considering the following hotels. We may split up our stay into 2 different hotels (west and south coast). The house looks beautiful, but expensive. Any advice on which two you would pick? Or if I'm missing a good option, let me know.
Thanks again!!
The house
Bougainvillea
Hilton
Beachview
Ocean Two

It depends on what you want to do. With Chan Tours, Grenada is a sightseeing excursion to beaches, waterfalls, overlooks and a shopping area. The Grenadines, is a sailing tour with snorkeling. In my ideal world, I would do both. I am not familar with Tobago except that the Grenadines tour goes though the Tobago Cays.
We are still researching hotels also. We want AI and are considering Mango Bay in Holetown, but it's very expensive. We might just go with a condo unit in the Gap and save some money for those day trips.
From research, the Bougainvillea gets many recommendations.

Sorry, I didn't catch that you have two weeks. If you want to include a second trip, we often combine Barbados with the Grenadines.
Personally, we always stay at the Hilton. We like the elegance of the hotel, the breakfasts, the pools and beach and the area. The House was something we had looked at when it was fairly new and they were having problems working out the glitches with the ambassadors, etc. However, at this point, I would not be afraid to go there as I hear they have earned the right to boast about their impeccable service. So, either the Hilton or The House.

If you like snorkeling from Granada I believe you can line up a 1/2 day trip to Tobago Caye.It is just about the best snorkeling remaining in the Caribbean. We went there several times from a resort called Petit St. Vincent resort that we enjoyed very much but there is not much to do but relax and eat well prepared food. But from granada I think they can just as easily access tobago Cate which is the nearest thing to a fabulous fish bowl.
