Taxi from Phuket airport to Krabi

Taxi from Phuket airport to Krabi
Our hotel said it is about a 2 hour drive, has anyone done this and what is a fair price? We are also considering renting a car at the airport and driving it for the week. Any suggestions or information? Thanks!

Krabi is a province so it depends where, my guess is probably Ao nang area, how long it takes to get there depends where you are staying, weather, traffic conditions. You can get a taxi from the airport but I would recommend arranging a good car service.
If you have an idea to rent a car there are many things to think about. Firstly have you driven in Thailand before ? If not the driving may be very different from what you are used to, rules of course are different. You would need and International Driving Permit. There are various companies, my suggestion would be Budget as they have good coverage.
But I would think about it with great care before going further.
I would suggest arranging a car service to Krabi and then once there see how you feel about getting behind the wheel yourself.
