Road tolls Alberta / BC Canada & through Wa/Idaho/MT to Yellowstone NP
Hubby & I are travelling by RV from Calgary - Banff - Jasper - Valemont BC - Clearwater BC - Salmon Arm/Kamloops/Kelowna BC - crossing the US Border at Laurier on to Kettle Falls - down to Yellowstone National Park via Spokane, Missoula, Butte & Ennis - then back up to Great Falls Montana - then on back into Canada to Waterton Lakes National Park on to Bobs Creek Wildland and back to Calgary (or maybe from Waterton Lakes back to Calgary depending upon time availability..... It is a big trek! We know! But it is a discovery tour we are on this time around.... Can anyone help us with where we might need to pay road tolls and are they cash-based or automatic? In most places in Australia, where there are road tolls, you really need to organise on-line before hand (otherwise you have to telephone a number and pay via credit card over the phone - or you get quite a fine - we won't have a phone with us).... What's the go in Canada and the US? Admittedly most of our time wil be in Canada, buy Yellowstone has always been a favourite of hubby's so I tried to fit that in as well! Anyone able to help?????

Good lord...
I think you would do best to expect no road tolls in those areas.
I mean, one might somewhere come up, but it is so very improbable that you'd do best to keep from obsessing over them as you just might be doing.
Generally speaking toll roads are far, far more popular in the eastern U.S. than in the western U.S.
IF you were going to New York or the like, they'd be everywhere, and a constant nuisance.
There has been a toll on British Columbia, Canada's Coquihalla Highway... but, shock of shocks, they even did away with that !!
And I could tell you about some stupid bridge near Seattle, Washington... but I won't bother.
JUST pretend NO tolls are expected anywhere along your path, and then rest assured that you'll be so faaaaaaaaaaar out in the remoteness if ever you encounter such a thing, that a bunch of mad New Yorkers won't possibly be behind you honking and yelling.
IF you have to pay some tiny fee (outside of a national park - I'm NOT talking about such places) somewhere, by surprise, go ahead and curse me out for the next few moments... but re-laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaax and expect no tolls anywhere.

NorthwestMale!I cannot think of any toll roads or bridges where you are going either. In the unlikely event they do stick one somewhere, you should expect either an attendant or a coin drop if it is very minor. Here in Central Florida and many other areas with lots of toll roads, rental vehicle tags are picked up automatically and it is put on your credit card - no need to stop. But you won't hit any tolls anyway.
You will of course have to pay admission to Waterton, Yellowstone and the other national and state parks you plan to visit. In the States, there will be a pay booth. In Canada, some entrances are on an honor system, and you might need to go on to the park's visitor center to buy your pass and put it on your windshield.

I don't actually mind the planning and consideration by would/will -be Aussie travelers to the U.S. over such a thing.
For anyone could RANDOMLY have been to the U.S. before and just happened to go to New York or many other possibilities along the eastern seaboard, and anticipate tolls for having had one (or a couple) such experience.
Alas, the western USA is more spacious and less crowded, and toll roads haven't burdened the landscape a great deal just yet.
Many of the communities listed in the O.P. will just be happy to know that tourists from other countries are driving on their roads. And when you get out there far enough, you'll start to ponder just how many pennies might end up in their fountains even if they did have a toll on those roads.

At the entrance to Banff is a booth where the required passes are sold to be displayed on your dashboard or windscreen. For a Family/Group (2 or more persons in the same car,) the fee is C$19.60 per day or C$136.40 per year for ALL CANADIAN National parks.
