Cologne to Bonn and back - best, cheapest travel method

We arrive at the airport in Cologne, but are staying in Bonn. We are only there for a little over 24 hours want to maximize our time. I know it's 30 or so mins from one to the other. I figure we should just get off the plane, look around Cologne, hit the Hard Rock Cafe, and head off to Bonn (my real area of interest). Is there affordable luggage storage somewhere in Cologne?
I know there's a bus, "metro," and regular train (I think) - which is best, fastest, easiest?
Thank you, All

Store your luggage at the main train station across from the cathedral and take a train back and forth from there.

Buy a Lander tikcet, assuming Cologne and Bonn are in the same Lander or region and both or even more will go for 29 euros toatl - and can use local S-Bahns, U-bahns and trams and buses to boot - cannot ride the fastest trains but on that journey that means only a few minutes slower.

Are you going back to Cologne, not clear. The great Cologne Cathedral is smack next to the train station - one of the world's hugest and most famous cathedrals - add it to the Hard Rock Cafe as a must destination IMO. Great sites for rail info on Germany - http://www.budgeteuropetravel.com/id9.html
- www.seat61.com; and www.ricksteves.com. If you are traveling much in Germany on trains other places then cehck out the German Railpass.

Cologne and Bonn (and the airport) are even managed by the same transit authority.

Get a day pass for the VRS network at the train station at Cologne/Bonn airport.
Tell them you need a day pass (= Tages Ticket) for 5 people (it's cheaper than buying two individual day passes for 1 person) for Cologne and Bonn.
That should be fare zones 4 for €22.70 altogether.
The Länder ticket, valid for the whole state, would be much more expensive, around €35.

Either day pass will be valid from 9am - 3am next day. On weekends, the 9am restriction is waived.

If you can't find a staffed desk, you can get them from any ticket machine there as well.

Don't forget to stamp the ticket at small validation machines, usually at the entrance of platforms or on platforms. You only need to stamp it once, not at each later transfer.

and still with that VRS network pass I think you are restricted to certain types of trains - curious as to what VRS network entrails - trains as well as trams, buses, etc.

The restrictions are same as for Länder tickets, Happy Weekend, Quer durchs Land...
All regional trains and S-Bahn included. No Intercity or ICE trains.
All trams and buses and subways (in and between Cologne and Bonn in this example)

Hard Rock Cafe? Walk around the corner from the Dom and try the Fruh Haus. Have a nice schnitzel and Kolsch out front.
