Scenic place to spend the night after all day in Pompeii.
Couple traveling to Positano the next morning after having been at Pompeii/Herculaneum all day.
Looking for recommendation for city/hotel accessible from train line, near Pompeii or enroute to Positano.
I know they'll be pooped from an entire day walking, so thought they would not want to train or bus to Positano that evening.
Thanks for all input!

Leave by the site's main Porta Marina exit, and take the Circumvesuviana train on to Sorrento...

It's quite nice enough for a night (and loved by many!), also handy for the next day's journey either by bus..

Three questions:
Will they have to change trains anywhere? Or does this train go direct to Sorrento?
How long does it take to get to Sorrento from Pompeii?
If they are arriving in Pompeii from Naples, is there someplace to store their luggage for the day?
I don't know their budget yet, but will return when I have that. I'm guessing 2-3 star would be fine. However, knowing the wife..something with a view of the Meditteranean would be her first choice. So if 2-3 star is not incompatible with a view...

I might suggest Vico Equense, the town where there is the world famous Pizza al Metro restauranat, and very close to Naples (only 40kms away - Sorrento is 50km).
It is not as touristy and crowdy as Sorrento, and a good base. We had stayed at Cubo apartments - very high tech, brand new and modern and offer a light breakfast in the morning included in their rates and if requested delivered to the apartment. The also have a cafeteria and restaurant below. Most of the apartments have the most beautiful view of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius. These apartments have the most raving reviews on tripoadvisor, and rightly so.
It is also a very short walk to the train station, which has direct connections to Naples station (as well as bus connections) owners of the apartments are so very nice and helpful they might even offer a pick-up. Also a literally a minute walk to the pizza restaurant. I am not sure if they rent for just one night, if interested check online using Booking.com or their website so that you can choose the apartment, or email and ask.
