In an earlier inquiry I had questions for our family group of seven, including three grandchildren ages 1.5, almost 4 and 6 while in Paris for four days. Question here pertains to any one who might have knowledge/experience of the Hotel Fleurie as my daughter is having second thoughts of staying there (last minute trip schpelkies I suspect). She has booked two adjoining rooms and a single for our group. I think with breakfast included in the rate and the location near to the Luxemburg Gardens in the 6th, this would work quite well for us.

After our stay at The Berkely in London for our first four days of this trip, D is concerned Hotel Fleurie will be somewhat of a let down.

Also, we might venture out to The Bois for the little train that would take us into the park after exiting at the Porte Maillot stop. I've looked at the maps of the Metro and can't quite figure out how to plan getting there from the St. Placide starting point.

I really appreciate being able to draw from the vastly knowledgeable Fodorite world of information. Thank you in advance!

I've only heard fairly good reviews of the Fleurie so don't know what the concern is. It might help if you explained what she is concerned about. If it is just that it is not a top deluxe hotel, no, it isn't, but you get what you pay for. If you don't want anything less than a 5* luxury hotel (which is what I believe the Berkeley is in London), you must book something else. That's just the way it is, but we don't know the tastes and demands of your daughter. The fact that she is really worried about this means, to my mind, that she won't like it and this is a big deal to her.

So you need to book something else if she only wants the top hotels.

As for getting to Porte Maillot from St Germain, you simply take metro line 4 across the river to the north and change at Chatelet (NOT Chatelet Les Halles) to metro line 1. You then go west on it 6 stops or so. YOu could also get on line 12 at Rennes and take that line over and change at Concorde instead (I probably would).

I'll admit I've been to Bois de BOulogne and caught a bus at Porte Maillot to go there, and don't know about a train, but you seem to know all about it. Must be that little thing that goes through that children's park, Jardin d'Acclimation. In any case, I went there but not for that children's park, they have a nice museum there which I really enjoyed. It is displays related to French cultural history or ethnography (eg, exhibits of rooms in houses from 100 years ago, dress, etc.). This sounds like a good trip for your grandchildren but if you can catch the museum, I'd recommend it.

I stayed at Hotel Fleurie several years ago and it is nice. It isn't glamorous but it is a good hotel and well located. I would stay there again. Paris Hotels are expensive and there are nicer hotels....I am not in my room that much, so it has to be clean and nice, but not luxurious. She should look at Hotel Madison or Hotel Lutece if she wants more luxury. (Or Georges Cinq, Hotel de Crillon, Hotel Bristol, etc...

Thank you for the prompt reply! It always comes down to price, I'm afraid. My daughter was able to get a great rate at The Berkely, but didn't have as much luck with the Paris hotels. We are traveling with the three children and their babysitter, so their connecting rooms configuration is a tricky one. I have a separate double room to accommodate the older boys on nights when the babysitter will have free time.
D and SIL travel extensively with their boys and babysitter, staying in moderate to high end hotels.

But this is a ten year anniversary trip, so D had wanted it to be "up scale". She is also holding a reservation at the Edward VII near the Opera but I think proximity to the Luxemburg Gardens will make all the difference as an easy "go to" place for day time activities. Evenings on their own for dinner and strolling the 6th would also seem be ideal.

Thank you for your remarks about the Hotel Fleurie, which echo my own thoughts. Nice but not
glamorous is just fine with me and I think will work well for us all, if D can adjust her expectations.

I had stayed at the Novotel Monparnesse in the 14th in October before joining a tour to Provence and the Rivera and loved that Arr., walked to Rennes and St. Germain, so know the area. This is the fifth trip to Paris for me, having stayed in Pigalle in leaner times, the 1st in better times and my favorite area is the Left for it's authenticity, accessibility and comfort.
