Switzerland: Interlaken

We will be coming from Salzburg into Switzerland. We fell in love with the photos from the Interlaken area, and the wife and I are looking forward to a visit. Now, we just need help building a potential itinerary, since the area seems overwhelming. Also, if we choose a BnB, what neighborhood is good to stay in?

We will be there mid-May 2012, traveling with just my wife and I. We have a Global Eurail pass, so it seems we should be able to get around with that just fine.

Thanks in advance for the help and suggestions so we can have a good 3-day agenda before moving on to Paris.

James:

Here are some recent Interlaken and Vicinity pics. We stayed across the river, facing south and the alps...you'll see a footbridge that leads into the center of town (about ten minutes pleasant walk from our hotel). From Interlaken Ost station(also a ten minute walk) we were able to fan out by daily train rides to several towns and villages deep into the alps. Not too many Fodorites stay in Interlaken...but for a few of us, we favor it. Turned out very well for us.

Great! Thanks for the suggestion. We are staying in a beautiful place just 5 minutes from town (Interlaken), so here's to fun, adventure and relaxation!

I'll be pulling up your photos as well as we get closer to leaving to plan what to do. Thanks for taking the time to reply!

We too will be in this area mid May. We plan on taking beautiful walks, enjoying the small towns, going on picnics, and relaxing! However, we'll have two small kids with us so I'm sure your 3 days will probably be a bit more relaxing than our 5. Have you thought about paragliding? We want to do it so bad, but we have kids with us so it probably won't happen.
