hotels in Barcelona,London and Florence

We are a mid twenties couple about to spend two weeks on a whirlwind European adventure. I have spent LOTS of time in Europe and its my girlfriends first trip. When I have traveled its been abit more rugged than it will be this time and we are on a budget...yet want nice (of course!) accomodations in convenient areas and access to great food and Fun !
It would be terrific if any of you know of hotels you can share in the medium price range..thanks!

Speak in dollars and cents. "Medium price range" means nothing.

Could you please tell us how much you want to spend per night? That makes it easier for us to give you recommendations.

lennyba is right: Priceline rules for London. You can get airy comfy 4-stars at bathroom-closet prices. Check out recent happinesses at http://www.biddingtraveler.com/

For Florence, consider anything with a rating over 8.0 (actually, anything over 7.0 will probably be o.k.) at www.venere.com or www.bookings.nl

I haven't been to Barcelona lately, but Bookings or Venere are still good places to start.

In Barcelona, definitely Hotel Catalonia in Plaza de espana. Look up the rates, great hotel, trendy rooms, and decent food. The bar is great! We all saw the World cup finals on the tv in the bar! Great atmosphere!

A medium price range for hotel sin those cities would be about $250 per night. $100 per night is definitely strict budget (just the same as in NY - that's what major cities cost). I think your best chance of getting something decent and central in London for that price in Priceline.

In the others look at europcheapo.com or see posts below for budget recos.

Priceline IS great for London. But even using PL, $100 will be tough. If you are lucky enough to 'win' @ $100, w/ taxes and fees it will be about $125.

Maybe look for real budget rooms in Barcelona or Florence and spend a bit more in London - sort of dollar cost averaging . Or look for a London hostel.

(I am a bit confused though . . . You say 'medium price', and then in your next post say '<i>I know its difficult to find in this range</i>' so obviously you already know $100 isn't mid-priced)

Try a private room at one of London's YHA hostels - www.yha.org.uk

For London, take a look at Travelodge. We used that last summer and got a room for 3 of us for 29 GBP, which came to under $60 US Dollars. We were at the Covent Garden one, which was a perfect location for us.

Yes - do check out the travelodge website. http://www2.travelodge.co.uk/

One thing about the travelodge £19 and £29 specials . . . They are very VERY date sensitive. For example I booked a £19 room in Edinburgh for mid-May, even two days later, the cheapest room would be more than £60.

Plus London TL rates are mostly very high this summer due to the Jubilee and the Olympics. If you are traveling before or after these periods, you might get a great deal at TL.
