This is trip is planned in late June/July. I hear the heat is almost unbearable.. is it too risky to go? Can you please review this drafted itinerary? Thank you,

I know I won't be able to see a variety of sights within Spain or Morocco... but just wanted a taste of the most interesting places in each country. Any must sees or recommendations welcome. How much of a must see is Madrid? I am going to Barcelona and much more a small town person...

If you look at the map, you would see that you are going to spend and lose full days bouncing around. You might consider flying into Morocco and then seeing the best way back to Spain.

And with a schedule like this you will only get a taste, so I assume you will return some day.

That does not look like a relaxing or fun vacation. The heat in Spain at that time can be unbearable except for the North coast. Having been to Fez and Chefchaouen I can say that I have no plans to go back. Some of the places people consider "must sees" are the Prado in Madrid, the Mezquita in Cordoba, the entire city of Seville, the Alhambra in Granada, the view from the gorge in Ronda (but 3 nights there is too much for me), Santiago, the entire city of San Sebastian, Segovia, Toledo and Avila and the Modernisme architecture of Barcelona (I can only take so much).

Not sure what you mean by risky. there is no risk It will be hot as hell.

Soutner Spain in the summer routinely has temps over 100 degrees - foten for quite a few days at a time. (I remember seeing an exhbit in a museum in Seville abuot one summer when the temps were more than 110 for a lengthy period.

You need hotels and transport with good AC, places with a great pool, assume yuo will not tour in the middle of the day (before noon and after 6 pm) and carry a lot of water and stay well hydrated.

We found earlyApril plenty hot enough for us and in the summer would only do San Sebastian (as the Spanish do.)

I would drop Morocco and add those days to see Cordoba and Granada.

Thank you for all of the advice. My main reason for travel is to experience the culture, walkable cities (despite the heat) not necessarily to see the main attractions. I am really drawn to the mystique of Morocco for this reason...one the to on my list.

I absolutely loved Fez, but a day or two is enough. I also really liked Madrid -- it's quite elegant and if you're into art there are 3 great museums. Tough decision. Usually you get to Fez by flying via one of the larger cities in the south, but you could also drive from there (drivers are cheap and it doesn't take that long). You could probably also take a ferry to Tangier and go from there, although I haven't tried that.

If you must go to Morroco a night in Fez is good, you can stop in Chefchaouen along the way for lunch. Then I would head back to Spain (where I would kiss the ground).

If that's the case, plan a Fall (we were there in late November) or early Spring vacation to Morocco.

You will broil in Morocco at that time of year. I agree with Michael. Plan another trip to Morocco in spring or fall. I understand why you are drawn to it - it's one of my favorite countries on earth, and I would go there over Spain in a heartbeat.

Hi, unfortunately I work for the school district and am limited to summers for long periods of travel. I couldn't attempt to squeeze in Spain and Morroco during a brief 2 week vacation. I am not able to travel dueing spring and fall unfortunately. Can anyone provide the best way to get from Ronda to Fez? thank you.

But Morocco by itself can be done in two weeks.
