We will arrive in Oslo via cruise ship. The cruise company, Princess, offers tours to various destinations, but we are interested mainly in two museums: the Kon Tiki and the Viking.
We will be in port about 9 hours - arrive `10 am, depart 7 pm according to the scheddule.

What would be the chances of having a taxi pick us up and the pier (or close to it) and take us to the Kon Tiki Museum?

Given that the chances are good to excellent, can one of you suggest a range of taxi costs?
I am assuming that if I call a taxi company, I can find one has English speaking people to take the call.

I could go with the cruise ship land excursion, but it goes places I don't want to visit.

Please give me your opinion on this matter.
In case you are wondering, I have never visited Oslo before.

Sorry can't answer the taxi questions as we stayed in a city hotel used a bus or tram to get over to the island with the museums as well as to Frogner Park. However, I highly recommend the Norsk Folk Museum near the Viking Museum. KonTiki was small and we went through it quickly. The viking Museum has excellent displays of the antique ships. Frogner Park with it's abundance of sculptures is also very worthwhile.

English shouldn't be an issue; we found that everyone spoke very, very good English. A very friendly city with kind people. We spent a short amount of time there last April and really liked it.

there is a frequent (every 40 minutes)little Bygdoy ferry leaving from Pier #3 in front of the Radhus..to get there, you can walk 15 minutes from Vippetangen Pier where your ship will dock, or take a taxi. Alternatively, you can take the taxi all the way to Bygdoy which is a much longer drive..and expensive. There is also a bus that can get you to Bygdoy. My advice..take the ferry both ways with less hassle. On the quite rural peninsula, you walk from museum to museum. No taxis necessary. The outdoor folk museum is also interesting.
You can visit all the peninula's museums in three hours max in my experience. Ample time to take ferry back to Oslo and get to the ship. If you want a late lunch after landing back in the city, Aker Brygge is a short walk from the pier with many varieties of sticker-shock restaurants...Time permitting, the outstanding Resistance Museum is on your way back to your ship. Enjoy your trip. As for understanding English, I would rank Norway in the top five non-UK European countries..you will be understood, unless you have a Boston accent!(laugh)

You could do the ferry as discussed above or board the hop on, hop off tour which will be waiting near the cruise ship. I purchasded the tix online before our cruise but there were plenty of tix available that morning. The nice thing about this bus tour is you get to see other sites of the city and then you can get off Kon -Tiki and walk to the Viking Ship museum...very pleasant walk. The bus will swing back to pick you up and return you to the ship.
