Copenhagen day tour
We are looking for a private tour company that will do a one day or half day tour of Copenhagen. Any recommendation?
We have booked the hotel and it is the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers. Any one with experience with this hotel? Is it close to any attarctions (walking distance).
Also, do I need DKK or I can get away with USD or Euros?

The hotel is not within walking distance to any of the major attractions that a tourist would want to visit. It is out of the main area of Copenhagen. There are better located hotels that do enable you to walk to sites: Marriott, Radisson Blu are 2.

This is a new hotel,it very near the airport , which tells you right away...there are no easy walking distances to any major sites.
I think they chose the site because they want to have a golf course there also
I stayed at the Marriott and for $20.00 more per night I had the riverfront view .
I was able to walk down Hans Christian Andersen Boulevard daily to go to the Old Town Hall Square.
It is also an easy walk to Christianborg Palace and on to Kongens Nytorv..
The Radisson Blu is kitty corner from the Tivoli Gardens and a block from the Old Town Hall Square...which is one of the main focal points.
I think you want to be able to walk to many places both during the day and evening too.

The Central Train Station is 2 block from the Marriott, and across the street ( west ) from the Tivoli Gradens.
The red Brick Train Station is a very nice building. You should see it and take apicture

Wow that is a lot.
I paid about $ 240.00 And there were two of us so it was like $120.00 each
I would do this:
Look up some of the quaint hotels on Nyhavn
The two I know are Hotel Bethel and Nyhavn 71.
( ask for a Canal View)
Both of these face the canal and from here you can walk anywhere.
These hotels are in old renovated buildings along the Nyhavn canal.
Most usually come with breakfast.
The canl boat tours that you will likely take , is just out your front door.
I paid about $ 240.00 And there were two of us so it was like $120.00 each

Eschew, if you go on Tripadvisor, they are a lot of people who say the Crowne Plaza is about a two minute walk from the Orestad metro/train station. From there it gets you into Copenhagen Central Station in about 10 minutes. I hope that is correct.

Eschew, I just went on Mapquest to find the distance from the Crowne Plaza Hotel to the Orestad train station and it says it is 1/3 of a mile. Sounds good to me. We got this hotel on Hotwire so it was only $118 US a night but we haven't stayed there yet, since our trip is in August. If you're still interested in the hotel and want to try Hotwire, we found it listed as a 4 star in the Vesterbro-Copenhagen South area. Hope this helps. Remember on Hotwire, there is no guarantee that it would be that hotel, but that is the hotel that has been given out recently by Hotwire for a 4-star in that area.

The Orestad Metro Station is about 1/3 mile from the CrownPlaza.
Only one other sation is further down( not that far either)
If you take the M1 Metro from Orestad metro Station , it will NOT take you to the Central Train Station.
Because the Metro does not connect to the Central Train Station.
So once you get on the M1 metro....you can get off at either Kongens Nytorv ( King's Square) or the next station the Norreport ( Northern Gate).
Both of these stations will leave you in "downtown" Copenhagen.
If you get off past these two stations you will have passed the "downtown core".
On the way back to your hotel ( Crown Plaza) , take the M1 metro back.....
if you get on the M2 metro ( They share the SAME track up to Christianhavn) , then you MUST transfer at Christianhavn to get back on the M1 .
Personally, if it was me , I would try to get a hotel in your price range in downtown Copenhagen. Like around Nyhavn or Kongen Nytorv.....or just a few block from the Old Town Hall Square...

Jrcollins, I think the Crowne Plaza is out (for us) because of location. Thanks for the tip about Hotwire.
Apparently June is high sesaon so everything is more expensive. Should have known better. Always travel during shoulder season for best selction and price. But then DW picked the date and place so I am stuck with trying to get the best price for eveyrthing.
Finally get the air booked. I think I got an okay deal. About $250 cheaper per person than I though I would pay on a direct flight round trip from the east coast. I can save another $250 if I want to change plane at one of the hubs (London, Frankfurt, or Amsterdam) to go to Copenhagen.
Percy, we have changed our hotel booking to Scandic Webers at Vesterbrogade. I think I am near old town and Tivoli Gardens (5 minute walk?) Rate quoted 1590 DKK so it is about $220 but breakfast is included.

Copenhagen is easy to see on your own. Take a canal cruise and walk along Stroget.
We took a train from the airport, easy to do, and walked to our hotel which was nearby.
We liked the charming Nyhaven area and next time will stay there.
Maybe your hotel can recommend a tour company.

Yes , from your hotel you are now 5 minutes to the Tivoli, 6 minutes to the Old Town Hall Square and 5-6 minutes to the Central Train Station ....take a pictures of this nice Red Brick Station.
The Metro from the airport is about a 15 minute ride.
At the Airport...go to Terminal 3 , ( near check-in counters) and purchase your ticket at the Metro ticket machine. ( about $6.50 US)
If you have any questions , there is staff on board to assist you.
Does Scandic Weber have a free shuttle ??
At the Old Town Square ( in the corner) is a nice Bronze statue of Hans Christian Andersen...
He is sitting down and looking across the street at the Tivoli
Sit on his knee and have your picture taken.
To go to the Central Train Station, ..out of your hotel door, turn Right...walk a block to Bernsstffsgade Street.. now turn Right again.... walk down 2 blocks, and here it is.
You will have to cross the street to try and get all the building into a picture.
About those street names in Copenhagen....I have learned to shorten them , for memory sake...

Like Happytrvlr said you have to walk the Stroget...and there is no better place to start than at the Old Townhall Square.
Walk all the way to Kongens Nytorv and here is the Nyhavn area....
take a canal boat ride here ( 1 hour with documentary)....you will see the Little Mermaid here from the boat.
About tour guide, I used Grethe and she also took me out of Copenhagen for the day to Frederiksborg Castle ( in town of Holyrood), then to Fredenborg Palace ( home to the Royal Family) and to Kronborg Castle...then back to Copenhagen viaq the "copenhagen Riviera"
