Have you eaten in Ashland OR lately?
We are going to Ashland in early April to see a couple of plays. Do you have any dining recs for us? A nice place for (an early) dinner or a good lunch spot. Any other things you really enjoyed? Thanks, CJ

Honestly I have not eaten in Ashland recently. This place looks interesting. http://www.dragonflyashland.com/dinner.htm
When I am in the area I eat in Medford which has at least 3 times the number compared with Ashland.
The South entrance for Crater Lake NP is open. On weekends the NPS rangers lead snowshoe treks if you want to learn how to snowshoe.

CarolJ: Here is what my Klamath Falls, Ore high school classmate recommended - and below that is why he and his lovely wife regularly travel from Reno to Ashland:
Amuse Restaurant, Black Sheep Pub, and Morning Glory for breakfast. I also like Pasta Piatti.
A little golf at Centennial Golf Course, or Eagle Point Golf Course in Medford?
Hope you have a good trip . We get up to Ashland twice a year, usually 4th of July and around Xmas. Sally’s dad lives on Oak Knoll and plays nine holes 3 times a week. At 90 years old he is still shooting around 100. I think being in the Navy on an aircraft carrier in WWII gave that generation real stamina.

I live in Ashland. There are many good restaurants in town and here are a few suggestions for restaurants in the downtown area.
- Dragonfly (fusion of Latin and Asian cusine), as mentioned, is a nice restaurant with well prepared dinner choices. http://www.dragonflyashland.com/
- Taj (Indian cuisine) is a good choice if you like Indian food. They have all the usual menu choices, which are prepared well. http://www.taj-indiancuisine.com/Welcome.html
- Pasta Piatti (Italian cuisine) is always a popular restaurant with good food. http://www.pastapiatti.com/
= Greenleaf and Gorilla Bites are both sandwich/soup/salad type restaurants that prepare foods using primarily organic items.

- If you are looking for really quick food, Martolli's has great pizza. http://www.martollis.com/

Was curious about Amuse - so googled it and looks like it is downtown/not far from the Shakespeare Pavillion - and here is there webpage and also what the Yelp feedback provides:

I always like Lark's, and I usually make it at least twice to Morning Glory for breakfast/brunch. Tried a new place last October -- http://smithfieldsashland.com/. Really enjoyed it. I'm not a huge meat eater, but did order a hangar steak and enjoyed it. I remember everything being quite good and friendly service. I'd definitely go there again. Pasta Piatti is good for a casual meal, though they can get quite busy before plays. Probably won't be too bad in early April (I'm going a bit later in April), but you can always make reservations to be safe.
I'm still bummed that the sandwich place in Allyson's closed...

Smithfield's is a cool place. Former Dragonfly chef's place. More places:
Blue-Greek on Granite.
Deux Chats-Bakery on A street
Caldera Public house-Beer and food on Water St.
Peerless-wonderful food on 4th St.
You might be here when the film festival is going on, always fun.
If you like cheese and chocolate
visit Rogue Creamery and Lille Belle Chocolates in Central Point.
Stroll Lithia Park.

Ahhhh - nothing like watching Shakespeare in an open air theater and if you are lucky (you may be a bit early in the year) - you might have some of the fragerance of the various flowers from the park wafting over the stage.
BTW - which plays did you select?
And yes, definitely do take a stroll in Lithia Park. http://www.ashland.or.us/Files/lithia_park_2011.pdf
This is from another high school buddy - noting Larks in the Ashland Springs Hotel. Hey - he is Italian and a pretty good cook - and always had a good sense of humor. He lives in Grants Pass - which is to the West of Ashland, and is involved in Health Services so he has checked out a lot of restaurants.
"Although I have not eaten there my work buddies that live in Ashland speak highly of Larks at the Ashland Springs Hotel. Of course, it's all a step down from my own awesome culinary flair, although I do get tired of meatballs. I have found a great hamburger place called Jaspers just toward Central Point on old Hwy 99. Somedays the place is so packed you have to wait to get into the place, but on a nice day they have plenty of outside seating. Wild boar burgers, elk, buffalo, plus the usual and unusal types of burgers in 1/3, 1/2 and full pounders.
Hmmmm time for a piece of meatball pie with chocolate sauce".

We have dined at Larks several times, most recently was in Jan. for lunch. Very good food here! Chateaulin, Peerless, Amuse and Liquid Assets are a few more of our favorites. For a real treat, check out New Sammy's Cowboy Bistro in nearby Talent. ***kim***
