Need help with itinerary for Vienna and Prague

We will have 8 nights in Europe - arriving Vienna and departing from Prague. Would you recommend staying 4 nights in Vienna, take a day trip to Salzburg, take a train to Prague, stay there for 4 nights and take day trip to Cesky Krumlov or Kutna Hora? Or 3 nights in Vienna, 2 nights in Budapest???, 3 in Prague. Isn't 4 days too much for Prague?
Thank you very much

If you have 8 nights in europe how many days do you really have. You can't count the day you leave or the perhaps half-day on whih you arive.

IMHO 4 days is not to much for either Vienna or Prague - and I think youmaynot have 8 full days. To add Budapest or Salzburg yuo would need to add days to the trip.

I would stick with the first plan. Pick the day trip based on your interests.

There are many, many worthwhile day trip options - form both cities. You just need to choose (or even choose NOT to take a day trip) based on YOUR interest. The train from Vienna to Salzburg is 3 hours one way - you might consider an overnight stay instead.

Four days in Prague is NOT too much. Even our 7 day trip to Prague felt cut short: http://www.fodors.com/community/euro...tober-3-10.cfm

Most people who do the Prague-Budepest-Vienna circuit (plus side trips!) make it 10-14 night trip.

Why would four nights in Prague be too much? Given its size, history, amenities, and attractions, four nights wouldn't let you completely absorb Prague's treasures.

Adding Budapest on an 8-night trip is daft - you'll lose a 1/2 day in the transfer from Vienna to Budapest and a full day in the transfer from Budapest to Prague.

Thank you very much. We arrive Vienna on Saturday morning and depart from Prague next Sunday, so we would have 8 nights 8 8 days. Any recommendations how to get to Hallstat from Vienna? I cannot find an "easy" way.. What tours would you recommend from Prague?

Prague is simply enchanting and four nights is not enough (or too much!). We had an awesome guide in Prague and would highly recommend her. It truly enhanced and brought all the history to life during our trip there a few years ago. Contact me for Helena's info if you are interested in a guide. You can see our trip report as well:

Vienna is just as enchanting, be sure to take in a concert or two! We also stayed at a very nice place while in Vienna that we would highly recommend although that was back in 2005. See our home page for some brief information. http://home.roadrunner.com/~TomShirl/index.html
Happy Travels!

Forget Budapest. Drop Salzburg, and maybe do a day trip to Melk and the Wachau Valley.
