Grand Canyon Weather Mid-March

What kind of weather can we expect if we go to the Grand Canyon in mid-March?

50 yrs ago I camped out on the rim above Havasu Canyon - so cold my feet didn't thaw out until half way down. At bottom it was so warm we went swimming.

Most likely cold mornings, sunny days. Chance of a snow storm, would expect 2-3 quick-moving (1-2 days each) storms in a typical March. Thus far we've had below-average precipitation this winter.

Best if you are a bit flexible and can move the dates around a couple days on short notice if a storm is in the short-range forecast.

Well it's mid-March and sure enough we just had 2 weeks of great sunny weather (highs up to 85 F in Phoenix a couple of days ago), then a sudden fast-moving storm nailed the high country today, with up to 15 inches of snow so far and many road closures in the northern part of the state ... the biggest storm since December, with twice as much snow as January and February combined.

Hope you didn't get caught up in it! Here in Phoenix it went from 85 F to 55 F, then is supposed to return to 75 - 85 F for Wednesday thru Saturday highs. In March you never know.

I hiked to the bottom in mid March a few years ago. There was lots of snow and ice on the rim and a few miles down the trail. I enjoyed having my Yak Traks!

I would much rather be there with snow and ice than in the summer.

It's 27 degrees and snowing in Prescott, AZ right now. Thursday is supposed to be 68 and sunny. Volatile!
