My daughter and her roommate are planning a road trip in March for a concert at the Nokia Theatre. Is there anything interesting to do or see nearby that a couple of college students would enjoy? It's been a long time since I lived in LA and I don't really remember much about the area.

This is going to be a quick trip from New Mexico, btw; they'll really only have the one day in LA.

They will be doing some of their own research, but I told my daughter I would ask. Thanks for your help!

The Nokia is located in a complex called L.A. Live.
Within this entertainment center there are many restaurants and drinking establishments.
A short subway ride away is Pershing Square and Grand Central Market., or change to the Gold Line and go to Chinatown.

Oh come on, they're visiting one of the biggest cities in the country and they have ONE DAY to fill....do they really need our help finding something to do? Yeesh!

Thanks for the ideas, logandog. I think they'd like to park their car at the theater and not have to drive much in LA if they can avoid it, so those suggestions will be helpful.

Yes. The Grammy Museum. It's located in the same complex on Figueroa, is three floors of wonderful exhibits, rock memorabilia, and hands-on interaction. They are currently exhibiting George Harrison: Living in the Material World; and have an exhibit paying tribute to the life and music of Michael Jackson.

A must-see for any rock n roll lover. Students with valid i.d. $11.95.

And yes, I am a member, since I can go as often as I want and get priority tickets to their periodic programs in the Clive Davis Theatre.

Is the plan to just hang around downtown or explore during the day and go to the concert at night? And will it be the Nokia Theatre or Club Nokia? I ask because the theatre is all sit down, reserved seats, and Club Nokia is (mostly, but not always) general admission to the main floor stage area and reserved seating upstairs, so if you get GA and it's a popular band, you'll want to get there early.

If the plan is to spend the day hanging out in downtown, and they've never been, it might be fun for them to walk around Olvera Street.

Everytrail is an application that has some do it yourself guides for walking tours. They could go to Little Tokyo and then Olvera Street, or just walk around and look at some of the landmark buildings, depending on their interests.

Thanks, everyone! Yes, I think they would like to drive as little as possible in Los Angeles, so the walking tours and subway options are good ideas.
