mother/daughter spring break
Hi, all. Decided to seek your thoughts after my daughters Spring Break plans fell through this week. She is now "stranded" and is actually asking if she(almost 15) and I can just go somewhere.
Actually, its not a bad idea. We have had quite a year and both of us need some time away . from everyone. We both want some sun and I could really use some spa and relaxation time.
I had thought a destination spa might be in order but I think we both want the beach on this trip. I want an easy trip (we live in the southeasr) and Florida is probably most practical logistically. I dont want to rent a car really...just be picked up and whisked away to sun , seafood, and spa ! I have considered Breakers Palm Beach, and the new St Regis in Miami. We have done ritz Naples several times but want to try somewhere new.
Even thought of ft Lauderdale but not all that familiar with hotels/resorts in that area.
Any thoughts you all could offer would br greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

I did exactly the same thing, under the same circumstances, with my daughter when she was 15. Great memories! She is now 30 and married; but, she still reminisces about our mother-daughter spring break trip.
Since we were planning late, we had to scramble for air tickets and hotel reservations in a warm destination. We ended up on Captiva Island, Florida. We stayed at the 'Tween Waters Inn (a very OLD, small resort, but still active and possibly of interest to you).
Captiva was/is sufficiently tropical and exotic to feel like a feel like a real escape. At the same time, Captive was/is extremely safe and cozy - very low-rise, high-end residential.
Check it out: The beaches and sea shells are amazing, and the mangroves and manatees in the bay are interesting for kayaking. The green flash at sunset is famous. Lots of cute shops and restaurants where two ladies feel very comfortable and welcome.

HaHa! I know my good friend Suewoo will find it strange that I'm steering anyone away from South Carolina and, especially, Kiawah Island. The Sanctuary Hotel on Kiawah is oh-so comfortable and elegant; and, The Sanctuary's spa is great! That said, I really think that Florida is the place for spring break with a 15-year-old daughter. Come back to Kiawah in the summer months. ;-)

If you both have passports, you might consider a cruise - enough together time but also time for you both to relax on your own. While more depart from FL, there are some from Charleston. There are websites that market last minute cruises at a discount - and have heard that bookings are down since ship disaster off Italy.
