Need help on leaving Naples Airport on 6am flight
We are traveling last two 1/2 weeks of May. Open-jaw Venice -Naples. Visiting Venice, Florence, Rome, Sorrento ( as base for Capri and Almafi) .
Our flight leaves Naples at 6am on a Wednesday. How soon would you suggest arriving at airport prior to departure and any recommendations on how to travel there ?
Is it feasible to get a driver from Sorrento early am or best to go to Naples on Tuesday for a hotel near airport ?
Thank you

the airport is near to the city centre-we had our B&B book a taxi for us early in the morning and it went smoothly.
If you don't have any time planned in /naples would definitely recommend one night there. even if just for the pizza!

Ask the airline to be sure, but the airport says... "Passengers on domestic flights with only carry-on baggage should arrive at the airport at least one hour prior to the departure time indicated on their ticket. For international and charter flights, its best to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours prior to departure time."
And that's going to involve an awfully early start from Sorrento?
Wonder if you saw this...

I suggest going to Naples EARLY Tuesday (to explore some of the neighborhoods you may have missed) and have a driver take you to the airport for your flight (find out when the ticket counter opens so you don't arrive TOO early).
Sorrento is too far about 70 minutes drive to airport.
You can reach the airport from central Naples (the Duomo was what I entered) in less than 15 minutes (especially at 4:30 am).

Naples Airport (Capodichino) is very small. For a 6am flight, I would feel very comfortable arriving at the airport between 4:45 and 5:00. (I'm guessing that this is the Lufthansa flight.)
It's possible to get a driver from Sorrento, but I wouldn't risk it. The road can be foggy in the morning, and it's not a place where you want the driver to take chances. I'd much prefer to spend the day in the Amalfi peninsula (or Pompeii, for example) on Tuesday, then stay at an airport-area hotel Tuesday night.

Thank you for your replies. We are considering leaving Sorrento and visiting Pompeii on our way to Naples for location near airport.
Can anyone suggest a hotel for easy transport to airport?

Any hotel in the center will whisk you to the station in no time. And it is a flat fee, set by law. Better to pick your hotel on the basis of what you like to do in Napoli. The Archeological museum if fabulous, and there are nice hotels around there. But if you would like a seaside dinner or one with a view, then there are nice places closer to the port or in the low hills. If you go to booking.com and put in your travel dates and budget, you'll get a nice range of possibilities and up-to-date reviews. Same with venere.com.

This is the new schedule of fares you should see displayed in the licensed taxis - same rates as before, just a clearer layout...

But be sure to note that the system isn't the same as in, say, Rome... and you MUST request to pay the fixed fare before the meter is started - otherwise the driver is entitled to charge you whatever it shows.... although, before 5AM, that's very likely to be less!

As Peter said: <i>"Any hotel in the center will whisk you to the station in no time."</i> That is to say - in 15 to 20 minutes.
So that leaves you open to hundreds of hotel options... Here's one I can strongly recommend:

Zeppole - Thank you. I need to explore what to do now. Admittedly, my knowledge of Naples is poor. We are leaving on a Wednesday. I believe the museum is closed on Tuesdays? I think we will leave Sorrenta early and visit Pompeii on our way to Naples. We may be tired from all the walking and should pick a hotel near a lovely restaurant with a view to relax?
Peter - great to have the schedule. I never knew about having to make the request. While in Sorrento, we hope to do a day trip to Ischia so I'm sure I'll be looking for your suggestions even more. Thank you

Just to confirm, yes - you're right about the Archaeological Museum being closed on Tuesdays!
If you've not already found it, this may be of interest - a very good, bimonthly magazine, 'Qui Napoli', from the city's tourism people that offers lots of useful information. A PDF version is available from...
http://www.inaples.it/eng/quinapoli.htm
The most recent edition covered November and December but hopefully they'll be able to start again in Spring - probably in April, when the America's Cup teams are in town?
For accommodation with particularly good views, have a look in the listings pages for those under "LUNGOMARE ADIACENZE" - but expect to pay a premium!
Nearby there's a good choice of restaurants in the Borgo Marinari, on the Castel dell'Ovo islet...

And you may find this a good introduction to the three islands in the Bay...

I have a similar scenario coming up in March. We have 5 days in the Sorrento-Naples area. We plan on staying in a Sorrento hotel for the first 3 days, then in a Naples hotel for the last 2 days so that we can see Naples and catch an early morning 6:20am flight. Since we want to see Naples, we do not want to stay Millennium Gold hotel that is near the airport. Wondering whether a hotel by the train station (such as UNA hotel) or a hotel in other parts downtown Naples are more reliable in making taxis arrangement?

The historical center and the museum. All other activities and site seeing will be out of Sorrento.
Budget is in the $100 to 150 range per night. I was looking into Decumani Hotel de Charme, Hotel Naples, and San Marco Hotel. My main concern is getting a taxis to the airport at 4 am in the morning. I am quite sure that any hotel that I stay will order a taxis for me the night before. I was thinking that a taxis can find a big hotel near a main road than one located in narrow alleys/roads. That is one of the reasons why I mention UNA hotel, a relatively new hotel near the train station
