Can anyone comment on their experience at La Pergola? We are staying at the Cavaleri (sp?) later this year and are wondering if it is worth the splurge. I know we will need to get the restaurant booked soon but would like to hear from those who have been there. Any pearls of wisdom are appreciated.

You'll probably find a greater number of people with direct experience of La Pergola on the Chowhound website message board for Italy. You can search the board for past posts where people describe their experience.

You can also put up a post and ask about the restaurant, but I suggest you phrase your question as something other than "Is it worth it?" Most people, even on Chowhound, do not spend that kind of money on meals. So those have eaten at La Pergola already made the choice that it was "worth it" to find out. You'd do better simply to ask people if they were happy or unhappy with their experience there, and why.

Ditto zeppole. Ask on chowhound. I've not gone that high end in Roma, but on the occasions I've considered it, I always thought about Il Pagliaccio.

Don't know how much time you've spent in Italy, but in general I've found that tasting menus are more filling than those in France. As in, fewer courses would have been better.

Do try Antico Arco if you like low-key modern.

If you go to Chowhound, you might also ask them what other restaurants are worth going to in the neighborhood, because i think you will end up wanting a taxi back to your hotel if you eat in the historic center. I don't know how many nights you are staying at Cavalieri, but the costs of taxis could add up to the point you begin to think eating at the hotel looks more affordable.

But there might be some other very tasty places within walking distance, even if they don't have Michelin stars, and you are not likely to find them in guidebooks.

Thanks. I have received a great listing of restaurants from a fellow Fodorite who has been to Rome multiple times plus a few blogs to follow regarding Rome food and wine.

I had checked Trip Advisor and I am not sure why I have not been on Chowhound but I always forget about it!

I am shocked to find that the tasting menus in Italy are more filling than those in France. I had the so worried at L'Atelier Joel Robuchon a few years ago b/c I couldn't finish every course (I was getting full). So, they gave me an extra dessert!
