Hello! I'm in the process of planning a very last minute quick trip to Maine (from Boston) with my mom. I have a couple of questions that I was hoping to get other peoples' opinions on:

First, neither of us has ever driven in snow before (I live in Boston so I'm familiar with it, just haven't driven in it) -- if we stick with coastal destinations, do you think this will be a problem (late February)?

Also, we aren't sure where to stay -- we're looking for somewhere reasonably nice, maybe cabins, but would prefer something larger than just a B&B, perhaps a resort or something along those lines -- budgetwise, we'd aim for under $200 a night but would consider more if it were especially nice. An indoor pool would be great, but not necessary. After looking around on google, we came across Point Lookout, which seems promising, but were hoping to get opinions from others if there was anything they'd recommend.

Also, I suppose I should mention -- we aren't completely set on Maine if anyone has alternative suggestions, the idea was just to spend a weekend away from the Greater Boston area, so if you've any other suggestions, we're open to them!

Generally the coast has less snow than inland, buy you can get fierce stormsthere too. Keep a plan B in case they have snow up north, and make reservations that can be cancelled without penalty, since you haven't driven in snow.. How far were you thinking about going? We just did a weekend on Cape Cod and it was great, cool and windy near the ocean, but beautiful views and we were able to visit all the areas that have too much traffic to get in to during the summer. All the parking areas were free and open and a few places for lodging were open. We stayed at the Sheraton Four Points on rt 6 in Eastham. If you haven't been to Newport, RI or the Stonington/Mystic CT areas you could find some places that would provide a nice break.

I like the Stage Neck Inn in York Harbor Maine, if you get an oceanview room. no pool but the area is lovely.

York has a lot to offer, and Stage Neck is lovely.

It is easy to get to Portsmouth, Kennebunkport, and Ogunquit for sightseeing and shopping, Cape Neddick lighhouse is nearby and a classic. Not a lot is going to be open, though.

Hello! Thank you all for your suggestions -- the stage neck inn looks great. We ended up deciding, out of nervousness about the weather, to just go to newport for the weekend, and then go on a longer maine trip this summer. Thanks for your help!
