Happy Chinese New Year in Paris

Perhaps some of you have not factored Chinese new year into your winter trips to Paris. Frankly, I think that it is a mistake not to see it because it is a delightful moment in the celebrations throughout the year in Paris.

The big parades will not take place until next weekend, but in the meantime, I visited a few areas and made this little report to which I hope to add next week: http://tinyurl.com/6tfd2f4

Thanks for another wonderful view of Parisian life. Paris is more diversified than most people think.

FMT - I guess it is not often you see a buffet à volonté in Paris.

Thank you, K2, for your Chinese New Year's photo essay in Paris. We're having our Parade on Saturday (usually in the rain) and it is getting bigger every year! I get to see the lion and dragon dances whenever I go to the San Francisco Chinatown lately. and you can see the people happy and so many selling the red envelopes.

The mangosteens are selling for $6.99 to $7.99 a pound so it is just as expensive here as in Paris. I guess because they are flown in from Thailand.

"Gung hay fat choy" to all!!!

How festive! Thanks so much.

Your comment about double-duty for decorations reminded me of living in New Orleans - we used to have Mardi Gras trees after Xmas.

Looking forward to more...

Just want to remind all of you in Paris that the big parades will be on Saturday 28 around Hôtel de Ville and Sunday 29 in Chinatown in the 13th. I don't think I can cover the events on Saturday, but I will do my best to add the Sunday festivities to my report. Don't forget that red envelopes full of cash will be thrown into the crowd! (So don't be surprised if people bite and scratch.)
